We had money to beast other pistons of need. But instead steelers are on their dirty knees waiting on a meh QB.

Who thought in their right mind to put all their chips on only one qb, with a late round draft pick without a #2 to trade up? That's dumb.

If we don't; and I hope we don't, get Rodgers, I hope we make trades for proven players.

I'm not sure they put all their chips on Rodgers, but they certainly missed out on help at other positions. The offensive line is a prime example.

They did get some free agents who might help, but they are bargain bin guys.

Our front office spent many years running to KMart for the blue light specials. The mindset is now engraved. They are going to do just enough to fill the stadium and nothing more.

Small market team is the game plan.

They put all their chips last year on Brandon Aiyuk and we're left holding the bag when they got spurned at the last moment. They had no plan B and had to play career castoff Van Jefferson as their #2 WR.

Who did the Steelers miss out on by talking to Rodgers?

Both Fields and Darnold were already off the board when the Steelers started talking to Rodgers.

Fields was off the board before free agency began, because the Steelers were allowed to negotiate with him before free agency.

i doubt rodgers held any of that up. we had plenty of money to throw around, even with the metcalf trade and if they set some aside for rodgers. they simply chose not to.

Maybe it's true the Steelers are playing the comp game for 2026, they haven't signed any big contracts in free agency but are signing guys who were released. They're in line to receive 4 comp picks.

    Fields = Darnold = Rodgers = Wilson

It doesn't matter who we get or don't get at QB. The ceiling is one and done in the playoffs, 10-7 record. The floor is 5 wins.

I do think the Steelers are bargain basement shoppers.
At the same time, you don't want to build through Free Agency. That will get you in cap hell.
Your draft should be the main building point with Free Agency complimenting.
Until you get to a Super Bowl window, then you maximize it.
Hopefully, by building through the draft, you get a core of players on their 1st or 2nd contracts, so you can add those must have players.
KC has done a good job at that but the Patriots were masters at it. And they knew how to draft players and trade them at some point to get extra picks.
We just are not strong in the Front Office. We are barely adequate.

They got a decent DT, injury safety, end of his career CB.

Might help isn't what this team needs. It needs long term players.

They could have went with Fields or darnold. But they decided to go for Rodgers. Guess you forgot fields was here last year and they could have talked to him.

I'll agree they're all meh level. But Rodgers will cost the most. And well be the fastest to be done.

By the time they started talking to Rodgers, both Fields and Darnold were off the board.

I don't understand why you think Rodgers had anything to do with the Steelers not signing Fields or Darnold. Who do you want them to sign now???

Like I said before, Fields was here last year, so the Steelers should have Re-signed him before free agency even began!!!

Darnold signed just hours after free agency began.
Hours after NFL free agency began, the Seattle Seahawks agreed to terms on a three-year, $100.5 million contract with $55 million guaranteed. According to NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport, Darnold will earn $37.5 million in the first season of the deal.

The Steelers were looking in the rear-view mirror at Fields and Darnold when they started talking to Rodgers.

IMO this storied franchise has taken hit over the handling of this free agency fiasco. I certainly look at them differently. Not that they care.

Yes you did say this before and it didn’t make any sense then either.

They certainly had discussions and he opted to wait for FA as he should have.

    There is nothing complicated here.

He didn’t want to compete here.

Not really sure Fields wanted to be here. I really don’t think Russ will be here too.
    Hopefully, Steelers have a plan

Also, don’t think Fields wanted to return. I know he got more guaranteed money in 2 yr with Jets, but the Steelers kind of did him wrong at the end of last season.

The Steelers knew he was going to be released, as did everyone else. And signing Fields or him would have no impact on next year's compensatory picks, which I feel have been a consideration this free agency period. There were reports that they were 'shocked' when Fields didn't sign. Don't know if they're true, but that, along with the plausibility that Fields didn't want to return and Rodgers being available, may be enough to explain why a certain offer was made, not accepted, and they moved on to Rodgers.

I don't want them to sign Rodgers. He's going to cost to much. I'm fine with is letting mason go and we go for a QB in the draft.

And the Steelers should have never been hopeful thinking of Rodgers. They should have talked to all QB and made an offer.

"and they moved on to Rodgers."

This is the whole point of my argument, by the time the Steelers started talking to Aaron Rodgers, Fields and Darnold were off the board.

RIGHT NOW. Who should the Steelers be talking to? Aaron Rodgers is a nightmare, but he gives the Steelers the best chance to win in 2025 if you ask me.

I also 100% believe that George Pickens is on the roster this year if Aaron Rodgers is the Steelers starting QB.

Lol, easy there. No need to get like jeh after the kids trampled through his front yard.

What I tried to answer was your question on what Rodgers had to do with them not signing either Darnold or Fields. Not how Rodgers stacks up against other available QBs at this point.

I guess you forgot Fields was injured near the end of last season, I don't think they were going to insert him as the starter considering the tough schedule at the end.

All these Qb’s mentioned are placeholders. We haven't really missed out on any special Qb. And I think they're looking at the draft to fill others needs.

Go with Mason and draft Dart. Let him watch and learn.
