Let's put this myth to rest. I keep seeing comments about QB purgatory of the 80's and how awful the Steelers were during this time.

    FACTS:

December 30, 1984 - Steelers 24, Broncos 17. Divsional Round, Mark Malone QB
December 31, 1989 - Steelers 26, Oilers 23. Wildcard Round, Bubby Brister QB

2 playoff wins during the Noll/post-Bradshaw/pre-Cowher era

Playoff wins for Steelers from 2017 to 2024 = ZERO

The 2020's are shaping up to be worse than the 1980's thanks to the lack of playoff competitiveness and lows such as last season's collapse.

Tomlin epitomizes participation trophies. Never a losing season. No playoff wins going on 8 years. Noll in the 80's NEVER had a streak like that.

Tomlin era Steelers = Steelers of 1960's

I'm having doubts about Omar as well, had a couple of nice drafts, but some of this stuff (maybe inspired by MT), is mind boggling.

I will take this a step further.

    Bill Cowher

94 DR win vs Browns with NOD
95 DR win vs Bills with NOD
95 AFCC win vs Colts with NOD AFC champs
96 WC win vs Colts with Mike Tomzack
97 DR win vs Patriots with Kordell Stewart
01 DR win vs Ravens with Kordell Stewart
02 WC win vs Browns with Tommy Maddox

That is 7 playoff wins with 4 different quarterbacks during the Pre-Big Ben/Cowher era.

Playoff wins for Steelers from 2017 to 2024 = ZERO

Until Mike Tomlin is gone, they will never win another title. This is a reality ownership is being very stubborn about.

80’s team was better coached. But i think this team since 2020 has the edge in talent.

Agree... on talent. The '84 and '89 teams overachieved. The '89 team was a miracle after the disasterous 0-2 start. That had to be the worst start to an NFL season for an eventual playoff team of ALL TIME in the NFL. And to think... Steelers almost defeated the Elway Broncos at Mile High. We will see no such heroics... win or lose from Popcorn teams henceforth.

For you young Millenial and GenZ Steelers fans.... Steelers were outscored 92-10 in the first 2 games of the 1989 season vs Browns and Bengals.

How many Super Bowl victories after Bradshaw and before Ben? Because in the end, that is all that really matters.

How is it not? Once Omar became GM all of the sudden they are making trades, draft philology apparently has changed, and major contracts are handed out. Why would Tomlin suddenly change after Colbert left?

You gotta win one of those participation trophies to get to the big one. It is noteworthy that we have zero playoff wins in seven years

You're right. For the Pittsburgh Steelers, Super Bowl victories are all that matters. This will not happen again while Mike Tomlin is head coach. Steelers needed to move on years ago when it was obvious Steelers were being outcoached and outplayed by Belichick and Brady on a regular basis.... regular season and post season. Now it's Reid/Mahomes... until Steelers can draft/develop a QB. That ain't happening under Popcorn. Bears got the HC we needed. :puking 4:

Is it really? An over the hill qb whose play directly attributed to some of those losses and a complete rebuild of the team.

From the Steelers perspective a playoff win is a ateo up. That's all I'm saying. I ate all the choices they have as QB. We don't have a good QB on thel roster. Ther was no way they were going to offer Fields what he got. So we're probably looking at another over the hill QB for a couple years. If had my druthers I'd take a few losing seasons if the Steelers were to make some smart moves. So we'll see what comes of this

The 80s was when I started watching football and supporting the Steelers.

I always have a soft spot for those 80s teams for that reason.

Louis Lipps is still one of my all time favourite players

For someone older then you the 80's were tough. I got used to those Super Bowls. Pirates and Steelers ended the 70's as champions. The 80's were like what the hell happened. Lipps was one of my top 80's players.

I met Mr Lipps wife at a tailgating 2 years ago. A very fine friendly lady.

Mr Lipps was standing back with some friends trying to have some privacy so I acted accordingly.
