The 5th year is of course used for a variety of reasons, but foundationally I think it gives the team another year to see the value and try and get him a new contract. When it is not offered after the 3rd year, teams are not seeing the value and development. Najee is reliable, but is not a game changer. The team might have actually done him a favor, he is not 'ancient' but entered the league later than most rookies, the focus on RB position has his suggested value at 9 mill plus a year. IDK if he gets it, but it's probably his only shot at a decent NFL payday.

I'm not all that certain Warren will be the No. 1 back. I hope these mocks I'm seeing with them taking a running back in the first round again are wrong.

It doesn't have to be that way. They could use it to solidify the position for one more year while they focus on the team's many other holes.

There is a good chance Harris will end up better off. I'm not so sure we can say that about the Steelers.

Reads "average". Teams that pay good money for average end up like the Browns.

One other point; it's quite possible they are keeping Warren because by many accounts he is the better pass blocker and receiver. So, the Steelers draft a rookie RB for carries, and Warren comes in on obvious passing downs for pass blocking and RPOs.

He is not a better pass blocker. Warren levels defenders on occasion, but Harris finds the right guy to block more consistently.

    Your opinion.

Must be why Najee himself said Warren was "amazing" pass blocker. And Warren was fined for 'roughness' in pass blocking. And reported he made the team because of his pass blocking.
    Your opinion.

So, according to you, the Steelers didn't option their best rusher and best pass blocking RB because why?

There won't be a next time. I'm tired, and I'm sure I'm not alone, of arguing with someone who's completely unbending on their opinion despite any valid counter argument. A guy who will argue a worthless, irrelevant position till the end of time, in some desperate attempt to prove that he has the superior mind around here. You win. I'm an idiot, and you're the master. Happy? :lolol:

You have the occasional interesting take, but you are absolutely exhausting, and zero fun to interact with. I hope that you can lighten up someday.

Tomlin has made enough questionable personnel decisions in recent memory to think that he could've just gotten it wrong because he liked Harris (or his draft pedigree, etc.).

Teammates praise one another all the time, but there is little reason to take that fluff seriously.

Warren blows defenders up once in while, but he has struggled at times in identifying who he should block. Harris is better at that part of the game.

I have explained this before. Warren looked like the cheaper option last offseason, and the gap will be even bigger now that Harris is a free agent. Their best option was to keep both. They could have done it, but that went out the window when they passed on Harris's option.
