It may indeed be that, on the one hand with all the smoke and few options on the market Fields probably should at least check out any offers he may get, but the Steelers may make an offer that is enticing enough to sign. I don't even think there is a best option to be made, in that there is really no one spectacular entering FA, they know what they have and at least by appearances seem to be making an effort to keep him around.

If I were Fields, I wouldn't accept anything from the Steelers until I tested the market. I hope Khan can get it done because I like Fields more for this team than any other free agent out there (given our offensive line play), but I do think we will get outbid for his services. We won't get a discount given how Tomlin benched him.

Cool sign the gimmick Fields up! A losing season here we come. Better draft position for 2026.

since none of the qb pick ups will be a long term solution and they do decide to draft at least one this year, i'm looking at who we could sign that would help the draft pick the most. rodgers? flacco? wilson? fields , <ha ha? darnold? another? should this go into their thinking?

Why? Fields was available for a pittance last season and no team bit on him. He did nothing special when the Steelers did play him. Last season did not enhance his value. It's a thin market, but he is far from the best available option. I think you are overestimating the market for Fields.

You can make the case Fields is the best option for the Steelers.

R Wilson is expected to sign with Giants

If you really want to tank but want to look lke you're trying, try Jimmy G, Winston, or maybe Mac Jones. If you bring in Zach Wilson or Lance your going to tip your hand.

Even if they tank, they still won't get a top 10 pick anyway. There's really no point.

who said they are planning on tanking? not long term because of the age of 3 of those guys. i also mentioned if they draft at least one this year which looks likely to happen, why not pick up a vet that will help a young guy the most. pretty logical.

I think Fields will be the QB in 2025, and with a solid contract. I don't like it but talk around the park is exactly that.
I would expect them to support that move with a couple strong moves in Free Agency.

    1. WR - They gotta have a real WR.
    - Marquise Brown is 27 and has some jets. Probably the best option of the bunch.
    - Courtland Sutton is a name tossed about.. 29 but solid.
    - Cooper Kupp, I think they should stay away from but one never knows.
    - Amari Cooper. I don't see the lure, but his name has come up.

    2. CB - I think they make a splash in Free Agency to get a CB. Why? They need the defense to get off the field on 3rd downs..

The really need a playmaker in this draft.
I've heard Tyler Warren mention a few times and saw article or two. No doubt about it, they need production from the TE and Freiermuth has been only adequate.
They do have some options at RB, there's a few I like.

I expect them to beef up the DL and OL with the rest of the draft.
The overall concept is to get the ball away from offenses and give Justin Fields more plays and optimize that with solid receivers and a solid run game.

Now what they actually do, who knows.
The Eagles released some fool's gold in the form of 2CBs - Bradberry and Slay. That's what you don't need here.

Personally I've never been big on Brown. And he's fought injuries the past few seasons. He's got speed, but I would pass.

I like Sutton, but don't see Denver moving him. He showed a lot of chemistry with Nix this year and is by far their best WR.

Kupp isn't the right fit. He's for a team that's further along than we are offensively.

Cooper I like. He's probably not a true WR1 anymore (soon to be 31) but would pair well opposite Pickens. That said, I'd think Buffalo would be hard to walk away from if they showed interest in keeping him.

The other big name out there is Chris Godwin. He's the best of the bunch with Higgins getting tagged, but at 29 will be playing for a big contract. While some teams may be concerned after his season was ended with a dislocated ankle, there are rumors of others willing to dish out some coin to get him.

I think Slay is better than fool's gold, but I do wonder how much that pass rush covered up his deficiencies. I wouldn't be surprised at all if that is the route the Steelers go.

Bills usage of Cooper was odd, not sure they will be looking to bring him back. If they aren’t, thats a name I’d be interested in the Steelers kicking the tires on.

Bad FA market this year, not a good time to need a WR. Slim pickings.

That was odd. Read somewhere that his targets/game dropped from 8 to 4 after the trade - I don't think he lost the ability to separate on the plane ride there, and his QB's play was markedly improved.

Yeah, there's not a lot to be had in the FA pool. I think Godwin's separation and YAC abilities would be a nice add, but he'll be pricey. He's also been most effective out of the slot (where I presume they want Wilson/Austin), and they'd want to make sure the ankle is good.

There are some rumblings that they may choose to roll with Pickens but not extending him. If so, they could afford to sign Godwin, put him in the Z opposite Pickens and draft a Tre Harris, Elic Ayomanor, or Jayden Higgins to backfill the X role.

He could cut that down like he did his Int’s, work in progress.

Running QB’s fumble more. Josh Allen fumbles a lot.

Actually, there is talk of Sutton... it is real.
None of the options are my favorite, just stuff I've picked up on.
Off hand, I don't think they'll move Godwin. But it would be a good one.
They really need 2 WR's and Pickens.
I would not mind the TE from Penn State either. I'd like to see more production from that spot.

I dont think he lasts that long, and TE in the first at that, normally I would say you are nuts, but he seems to have generational talent and Smith loves his TE's.

I know the thread is about Fields, but I’m going to respond on the WR position discussion. I would call the Raiders and inquire about Jakobi Meyers. He is a tough receiver who can be that legit #2 option, but less expensively than some other options like Sutton - both in terms of draft comp and cap dollars.

    Dont forget about Darnold,
Its either re-signing Fields or signing Darnold and drafting Dart, for real, is what I am thinking now,

Fields or Darnold, Dart, Thompson QB room seems to be the way to go
