I don’t like it. Sooner or later a QB is going to get injured by being pushed front and back in a pile where his legs may have nowhere to go.

Was it banned in the past? On Bart Starr's famous Ice Bowl sneak, you can see the RB holding up his arms to let the ref know he didn't help the QB across the goal line.

Defenses have to really try very hard to stop the player from doing the tush push thing!

A better rule would be that when the quarterback crosses the line of scrimmage, he is no longer a quarterback. He's a runner.

Also, any maneuver at all that may look like a quarterback (or any other player) is giving himself up should be considered ball down at that point. Even if they didn't plan to give themselves up, it should be considered down.

The tush push sucks. The way to stop it is to keep the eagles from being 3rd or 4th and short.

Troy Polamalu was known to leap over the line a pull the ball carrier backwards. It's a big leap over the Eagles O-line.

I would. I wouldn't ban the play altogether, but I think you can put a flag for players pushing the QB that line up within a certain distance from the QB.

Like call it "Illegal Pushing" - Any player lining up less than 5 yards behind the QB in formation cannot push the QB at the line of scrimmage - 5 yard penalty, loss of down.

This would eliminate the slot WR or TE motioning across and pushing, and eliminate what Philly does (lining up multiple players right on the QB's hip) from happening. Its a super lame play. Its absolutely zero skill, and quite frankly takes the fun out of 4th and inches or 4th and 1. Tom Brady used to be awesome at QB sneaks and he neither squatted 500lbs nor had anyone pushing him. He was just good at knowing where his opening was going to be and accelerating to it. It was actually, a skill. The "Brotherly Shove" is just leveraging the snap count to get just enough of an advantage where their 3 guys (C and G's) can beat the defending 4 up front (DT's, and LB's) because the QB is huge and he has two other huge players pushing him. It turns it into a 6v4. Its 3 blockers, a ball carrier, and two pushers vs as many guys can get into the 0 gap (probably 4 tops). Advantage to the team that knows the snap count and its over. It should gain at least 1-2 yards 99% of the time because it is indefensible.

The fact that its been allowed to happen for as long as it has is astonishing really. I guess its a massive advantage for the offense, so the league just allows it in the spirit of keeping drives alive.

Yes it was banned until 2005, when they changed the rule for aiding a runner, to not include the word "Push" and just include the word "Pull" a runner forward.

Before 2005 it would be illegal to "Push" or "Pull" a ball carrier forward.

In my household the "Tush Push" has been banned since the mid 80s, when me and by brother made putting all your players jammed together in the middle for a running play in electric football illegal.

    BANNED!!!!

The Steelers just need to coach it up the best than can on both sides of the ball. Take advantage of it on offense, The play does make the guard position more important. And at center, Frazier should be good at leveraging his opponent on the play. KC did a good job against Buffalo defending some 4th and 1s.

Frazier, was also in his first year as a pro. No doubt he'll come into camp stronger and with an understanding of how his body responds to the wear of the season towards the end. With his background I fully expect him to have some real counters going forward

I vote ban. I don't have great reasoning, I just think it's a dumb play and it looks more like rugby.

Also, respectfully, I just think the argument of just keeping the Eagles from being in 3rd or 4th and short is just tired. Those situational plays are always going to be there even if you're a bottom feeder team.

Didn’t it used to be illegal to help the ball carriers forward progress

I remember The Fridge getting a penalty for tossing Sweetness over the pile into the end zone

Absolutely not. Why it works is the Eagles have a killer offensive line and Hurts is a freak of nature executing it. It didn't work for the Bills in the playoffs.

    Ban it.
I also have issues with the 'scrum' where people are pushing the pile on a late whistle.

There is already a risk of quarterbacks getting injured on sneaks. That is one reason the Chiefs use Kelce in short yardage situations, because Mahomes got hurt on a sneak.

It's legal and a brilliant OC came up with an almost unstoppable formation. One with imagination and knowing how to use his oline and athletic qb. I wish we had one. It's been two seasons and DC's haven't figured out how to stop it. I don't know if there has been any major injuries on the offensive side of the ball ... so I'm all for it. Don't cry about ... stop it on the field.

I believe it's always been that you can push a player from behind, but you can't pull them.

I've been thinking that, as soon as Hurts get his back messed up being forcefully mashed from behind while someone has him stopped in front, that'll put a quick END to the tush-push. If I were an opponent, I'd study where to hit and push him to make it painful. I know, I know, we don't want to see a player get hurt, but if you REALLY hate it, feel its unfair, then make those that use it pay DEARLY. QB out for year or career would be heavy punishment indeed.

Yeah, it’s almost indefensible the way the Eagles do it. They’ll get low as u can go to the ground and all hands on deck push. Their lineman do even stand up, rather they almost crawl. Refs can even see knees to ground because it’s all hidden in the scrum. Brilliant!

Anyone stop the Eagles push in recent history?
