He's a possibility for sure. I have only watched one tape of him so far with a focus purely on him, but I liked what I saw. Really instinctive football player. He looks like a "coach on the field" type of player.

Todd McShay has us picking WR Robert Woods from USC with our 2nd round pick, bypassing Minter. (I don't see that scenario playing out). He has us picking Jarvis Jones in the 1st round.

Minter maybe in the second but not at 17, one thing you have to keep in mind
is the Steelers seem to be able to judge WR talent, so I am going with a WR in rounds
3 and up I am also going with RB rounds 4 and up, so you have rounds 1 and 2 for a safety
and an OLB.Or in this case where apparently the Steelers like this guy or maybe they know that Spence is NEVER
coming back they pull the trigger on this guy.Of course this scenario could all change if Sanders is signed off of
    our team.

i am hoping someone want to trade up with us. i would hate the pick at 17 but i dont think he is there at 48. this is the question i ask in another post. if you like a guy and he fills a need does it matter where you take him?

It absolutely matters! That's the whole game of the NFL draft is getting who you want, at the lowest pick you can...

The Steelers could've drafted Jack Lambert in the first round and nobody would ever say they reached or make one bad comment about it considering he ended up being a Hall of Famer... but he would be there in round 2, but they'd miss out on Lynn Swann had they taken Lambert in the 1st (because he wouldnt be there in the 2nd).

In fact I remember reading they really liked Swann and Stallworth, but knew one would be there later when they other wouldn't.

And on Minter, I think he'd be a very solid 2nd rounder, but not first... He's a tackling machine and a smart football player but lacks athleticism or high upside... Also, side note... I'd be very upset if we passed on Cyprien in round 2 if he was there.

i think minter woods or woods minter would be two solid picks for us. woods is a good receiver. he'd be a nice compliment to sanders, brown, cotchery and buress. that's quite the fine receiving corp. we also have moye at 6-5 waiting in the wings. minter would be unspectacular, but solid as a rock next to timmons. i think both picks would make us better. not my first choices but solid players. i am pretty high on woods though. good routes and very good hands.

So ur saying at 17 no. Even though he wont be there at 48 and i would be stunned if he is. I think he goes behind ogltree and teo. He is worth a first round pick in my opinion. I am asking if on ur big board you have him around the 30th best player and your top pick at lb is gone. They guy behind him on ur board is way behind. Is ait a reach to take him at 17?

if we can manage to trade down in the first and up in the second we can take minter and reid , they already know each other and it will be a nice combo in coverage

Not really commenting on Minter specifically, but just saying in general, yes it matters.

I think there's a chance Minter is there in round 2 because ILB's tend to fall anyway and I see Minter as far from a finished product. Throw in the fact that he's the 3rd or 4th guy at his position (depending on where you rank Te'o), and there's a good chance he's there in the 2nd round.

If we take Minter ahead of Ogletree and Arthur Brown, I'll puke.

It really does matter. You can't reach, just because you like the guy. Value is essential on draft day. Otherwise you end up like the Jaguars and take Tyson Alualu 10th overall. Its bad drafting.

Exactly. Even if Alualu became a pro bowl talent, the Jags would've been better off taking someone that fit the range, and grabbing Alualu in the 2nd round.

i agree on the reaching but i disagree that minter is a huge reach. he has first round talent and some people think he will go ahead of ogletree. i know the off the field issues have alot to do with it but brown is the only one who is better in my opinion. if he falls great but i think we take someone else anyway. just curious on how you all thought.

Yeah, they took Stallworth in the 4th, that's mind boggling that he lasted that long. No way Swann would have made it that far so they played it perfectly.

Yep, Noll wanted to draft Stallworth in the first but they felt like he would be there later since he wasn't as high profile as Swann. It's also been said that the Steelers went out of their way to make sure the Stallworth highlight tape was not widely distributed. Can you imagine trying to keep a player hidden today? IMPOSSIBLE!
