I don't think the Steelers have a 5th they owe one to the Jets for the Mike Williams trade.

they traded their own pick, but have 157 in the 5th from the rams.

Mathew Stafford is also on the trade block. What would you give the Rams for both Stafford and Kupp? 1st round pick?

Really? Not only do Stafford & Kupp bring their relationship with each other, but they immediately take over the Offensive Team leadership. The locker room attitude would immediately change.

This would be a huge win for the Steelers offense, and especially George Pickens.

This trade would be all about winning a Super Bowl in 2025. Trading a 1st round pick would definitely be all about the Steelers putting all their chips into the pot for next year.

You have a much higher opinion of their abilities at this point in their careers than I do. No way are they worth a first rd pick.

Stafford is a gamer but hes 36 and Kupp is 32 and fell off a cliff last season. Staff wasn’t even looking his way, he was out there being a decoy basically.

Look what happened to Denver after what they gave up to get Wilson there.

Absolutely nothing, this is worst possible course of action I could think of.

There would be value in having Kupp in the WR room as an experienced and professional veteran. He is a savage worker and blocker and could really help the younger guys on the roster. That said, the price is key, he isn’t going to be a big contributor on the field any more.

There are other guys like Davante Adam’s and Christian Kirk who will also likely be available as their teams try to shed their contracts. I think either of those guys would give you more at this point.

Some of the above will be cut, no need to be giving up draft capital unless it’s a 6th / 7th and the selling team is paying some of the contract they are trying to get rid of

If we had a team that was just a QB away from contending in 2025, I’d consider Stafford for the right comp. Stafford led the Rams to a 1st round playoff win and was very close to leading an upset in Philly in round 2 of the playoffs.

Since we are not just a QB away from contending in 2025, I wouldn’t go that route.

With the options available I would still consider him but no way should they give up a first. I would be open to Kupp as well. My biggest concern with both is staying healthy plus how long before Stafford hits the wall.

Oh god, no 1st rounder for sure. I guess I’m disgruntled enough with the Tomlin standard that I’m having difficulty seeing us contend right now no matter who we put on the field. When I say we’re not just a QB away from contending it’s more about coaching than the roster. I think with a good QB, the rest of the roster could be capable with a few good non-blockbuster FA signings and a few rookies who contribute (plus Fautanu and Roman Wilson), but without a change at the top we would just squander it.

I'd only trade for Kupp if the draft capital is a conditional 2026 4th or 6th based upon the number of catches he makes and games he plays. He's just too injury prone to trade away a pick this season.

I feel like the Steelers are going to replicate what the Yankees did following their string of success, they started signing guys on the downside of their careers vs facing the music and rebuilding properly. Kupp coming off a significant injury and his numbers having declined every year even though I love his work ethic seems like a bad reach to me. We need to rebuild and make the necessary investments in players on the upside not downside. For every 1 diamond in the rough aging veteran you probably miss on 2 others.

When the Rams made the trade for Stafford he was still in his prime, the team had just been to a SB and was ready to roll. When TB made the move for an aging Brady, the same could be said for the team AND their willingness to go all in. The Steelers are not anywhere close to being a SB team and the current surrounding O line would likely get Stafford in nearly killed, that is a bit much, but no way anyone could compare this team to SB competitive.

The CAP hit has to be taken into consideration as well, even if the Rams swallowed some of it, it's just to much to fork over for someone that brittle.

Not saying I don't get why they wanted an upgrade at QB to push their playoffs higher, but they hadn't just been to a Super Bowl. They were looking to capitalize on a talented core before aging/FA took their toll.

I like your idea, should be a negotiation tool used by Steelers more often.

Just draft Emeka and say no to Burden .
    Austin is a good WR4 , not WR3.
Still need one more WR. Kupp maybe, will never happen tho.

"Just Been"///ok, Recently had been to...lol You are correct of course, they were willing to go all in, traded for not only Stafford, but during those years did other trades as well.

IF we were in a better place, a trade for an aging Stafford might make sense, his CAP hit the next couple of years actually is not out of line compared to what others are making, but he is older and we are not in that place. I would actually hope we could find another pick in top 100 and even another 5th. This team needs built with not only starters, but quality depth.

We have traded for aging WR and edge for what amounts to one year rentals and little success. Next year the Eagles top CAP hit is their QB at 20 million and they are arguably the best roster top to bottom in the league.

The Eagles re-signed both of their receivers to new deals recently to more than 20 million a year.

You know what, I totally forgot about 2019 when I responded. My fault. :lolol:

I'd think I'd remember because my uncle is an avid Rams fan, and he's that guy that makes any conversation on sports about his team.

The Eagles are making liberal use of option bonus prorations. The maximum number of years an NFL team can extend prorations for signing or option bonuses is five years. For signing bonuses, this means five years from the year of the contract is signed. Option bonuses, however, can be assigned each year of a contract and prorated for five years beyond that year.

So in essence I could sign you to a five-year contract with a guaranteed $15M option bonus prorated as $3M/yr through 2029. I could then have another option bonus start in 2026 of $10M, prorated as $2M/yr through 2030, and so on. It's a way of spreading large money contracts out over more than five years - Hurts currently has void years supporting option bonus prorations through 2032. The void years allow both sides to come together and negotiate an extension, so the player to keep up with their current market value and the team has the option to move on (eating the dead money), or to extend him and smooth out the cap hit.

It carries some risk, but isn't a bad strategy if you have a few top-line players.

that may be so, but this year the top CAP hit is the QB at 21 million, next is WR at 17. They may be in trouble down the line, but the team they have with this window opportunity is loaded.

this year their dead cap is already 6th in the league, but they have enough CAP space to get their rooks in and do some emergency work if needed, I can see this possibly becoming an issue when everything hits. Interesting to see how teams work the CAP.
