I'm all for Grant at #21, I just don't know that he'll make it. He's gonna show out at the combine. Especially for his size.

 

When are you thinking Ty Robinson goes? I really like him but I think he'll be gone before rd 4. He could last longer.

 

Ty Robinson will most definitely be available by Round 4. For that matter, I think that is too rich for him. He is a mid Day Three player due to his lack of length. An Arm Length of 32.5 inches as a 5 Tech IDL isn't ideal. He does possess a relentless motor along with the ability to pass rush. However, due to his lack of length, he is often going to lose engagements in the running game. Not only that, while he does have a great amount of experience played, his continual omission of leverage when engaging opposing lineman in both run and pass will leave him vulnerable.

 

Walker is 6'7" and weighs 340 if he is motivated to play for Tomlin that is a good thing.

 

The crazy thing about Deone Walker's skillset is that it doesn't translate well to a 3-4 DE like some believe. If anything, Walker is a very weird and very unusual 4-3 DT sadly trapped in a 3-4 DEs body. Thing about 4-3 DTs?! They have to be both explosive and quick; neither fitting Walker's profile. However, a 3-4 DE needs to be both long and stout against the run; Walker only having the physical aspect but not possessing neither the leverage nor conditioning required to do even that.



He might just be a player without a position. Truly a shame considering he was my favorite IDL coming into the 2024 NCAA FBS I Season.

 

Thing is he is going to need some serious coaching up; namely in his leverage and conditioning. The tools are no doubt there; among the best of any position in the draft... bar none. The key is how to maximize his tools.


As I told @Blast Furnace, his tape suggests that he would be a solid 4-3 DT but there is insufficient evidence in that as those types of IDLs have to be both explosive and quick. If not, better have some crazy levels of strength; something Cameron Heyward did have while at Ohio State. Deone does himself but he is nowhere near the level of explosive that Cameron Heyward was coming out.


Forget about putting him at 3-4 DE as well. Again, his conditioning and leverage are both going to need major overhauls. Given how stout and sound 3-4 DEs need to be against the run?! Deone can defend the run but not for the length of time needed for the position.

 

That's the consensus I'm getting about him. His pad level is a big issue with him. When he gets his pad level down, he can have and unstoppable bull rush, but to get that low he can tend to lunge or lose sight of where the play is going because he's going in head down. Like in the clip above where he walks the Center back. But, if he doesn't stay low he gets stood up and loses his leverage. Being that those 3-4 DL take on a lot of combo blocks, I don't know that he is the best choice.

He kinda reminds me of Daniel McCullers. His body is his appeal, and his curse.

 

The knock on McCullers was he was not aggressive enough. He could be immovable but was not a penetrator.

 

If you can believe Noah and his sources, the Steelers are completely ignoring the QBs at the Senior Bowl. Instead they are focusing on D-Line, WR, and RB.
