Since it's a foregone conclusion that Tomlin is going nowhere:

Expanded coaching roster. They need pass game and run game coordinators on both sides of the ball. Tomlin needs to allow his coordinators run their prospective sides of the ball especially when it comes to game planning. The game planning have been horrendous. I think they need to focus on analytics more when it comes to 4th down decision making.

Rooney needs to change his relationship with Tomlin. They need to make itva boss/worker relationship instead of a peer relationship.

Tomlin himself says 2 is a pattern and they need change and adapt. But its been 8 years of this insanity of zero changes and adaptation. The names of coaches and players have changed, but there hasn't been any change nor adaptation to the modern game.

I expect more of the same next season, and that's the problem.

Can we add a time management/challenge coach that Tomlin delegates those decisions to?
In truth, a lot of teams need that. My theory is that the head coach has too much on his mind, and is not really in the moment. Mike McDaniel is trying to overtake Tomlin for the "dumb challenges" title.

Names don't matter if Tomlin doesn't allow them to do their job. Can have Sean McVay as OC and Demarco Ryans as DC and well have the same issues. Tomlin himself needs to learn that doing less is more.

It is your thread isn't it? You started it? Did you really have nothing to say other than you want change?

Cool. Yeah, I want change too. :rawk:

Haha fair response my friend. But ultimately I wouldn't be surprised if they run it back with Austin and Smith again.

He won’t leave his cushy studio job and Steelers won’t do it anyway but Rex Ryan. He’s out there effusing about Tomlin, maybe he’d like to work for him.

A more realistic option and excellent choice would be Saleh.

Who I think it will be, Grady Brown, already on the staff. He’ll be promoted to DC. There was hype around him earlier in the year.

Grady Brown should seek a DC position elsewhere imo. It's nothing against him personally nor his ability to do the job. I think he can be successful elsewhere.

Matt Eberflus would be my choice for DC.

I think Smith should get a2nd season with this OL and weapons.

We still don't have a QB. Until we find that guy, OC is gonna be limited by it. You can point to QBs that worked here and there but those are outliers. We need to find our own Joe Burrow.

I wouldn't mind seeing Eberflus would be a great fit. I went through coaching staff rosters the past hour and there's not many upstarts that appeal to me on the defensive side of the ball. As for OC I'd like to see Brian Johnson PGC Washington, Darrel Bevell PGC Miami or David Girardi QBC KC get looks if the OC opened up. Maybe bring in David Girardi as PSG if we create the position and nurture him as a potential internal option as OC in the future. Since we love our Steelers alumni a guy for PSG could also be a Antwan Randall-El WRC Minnesota.

Randall-El was a college QB as well. He has an understanding of routes and combinations of routes.

Looking like Austin and Smith will return. I really want to see them hire a pass game coordinator on each side of the ball.

Ryan isn't leaving the studio for anything but a head coaching job. I'd love to see them hire Saleh, more so than Ryan, but I expect Tomlin to miss that opportunity and just run it back with Austin again.

A new DC, who is actually allowed to be the DC, is the biggest need, beyond the real biggest need that will never happen.

I'm always for the young and upcoming type, fresh ideas and all of that, especially from elsewhere so Tomlin hasn't polluted them (yet). That said, with this mediocre, old and highly overpaid Defense, maybe an older retread like Ryan, Saleh, or Eberflus (who I bet is going to Cincy) could work. Promoting more Tomlin automatons from within is always a bad idea, so it'll surely happen. It's the junk "standard" after all.

“I have no response to that. I understand the nature of what it is that we do,” Tomlin told reporters on Tuesday. “The attention and criticism that comes with that. As a matter of fact, I embrace it. I enjoy the urgency that comes with what I do and what we do. I don’t make excuses for failure. I own it. But I also feel like I’m capable.

“As long as I’m afforded the opportunity to do that, I will continue. But I certainly understand the frustrations, and probably more importantly than that, I share it. Because that’s how I’m wired. I’m not a big-time comfort seeker, and particularly in circumstances such as this, I don’t view myself as a comfort provider because words are hollow. It’s about what we do and less about what we say.”

This is more word salad from Tomlin. I truly believe he is one of the most arrogant human beings I've ever heard anything from. He tries to present himself as someone above the fray. Not admitting anything he did wrong. I truly think he believes in his talent and the results don't seem to enter into his head at all. You may disagree with me but his words tell us all we need to know about him. He will hold onto this job at all coasts. And Rooney will give him his full support. So buckle up and get ready for the next three years.

If they aren’t going to fire Tomlin then I like this answer from Brian Batko on how to possibly improve things.

I think they need to rethink how this franchise operates, revamp the organization to an extent and basically bring it into the 21st century of how NFL teams are run.

Stop having one of the smallest coaching, support and analytics staffs in the NFL. Stop having so many inexperienced assistants who command lower salaries. Stop with such an archaic view of “too many cooks in the kitchen” when you see your competition employing run game coordinators, pass game coordinators — on both sides of the ball — as well as game-day advisers who help their head coaches with timeouts, challenges, clock management, etc.
