i have seen alot of people say 17 is to high to take this guy or he wont be there when we pick later. i know alot of people reach when they draft for need but i want to use marcus hunt as an example. i would have no problem taking him at 17. i think he goes late 1st and i would be shocked if he made it to our second. if the steelers like him and he fills a need do they take him over a guy who has a higher grade but doesnt fill as big a need. what would you do? that is kinda why i want to take a saftey in the first 2 rounds. they may or may not fall but it fills a need and my thinking is we could come out of this draft with 2. take one high and if one slips to the 3rd or 4th take him to. let them play behind ryan and troy for a year. i was just wondering what you would do. i dont have a problem taking a guy 10 or 15 spots ahead of were he is projected. i do have a problem taking a guy in the 3rd who would be there in the 5th

If we go d-line I would go Star Latoullie, even if it meant trading up to grab him. Otherwise, I wouldn't go d-line.

yes he is my favourite too but i think could go in the top 7/8 so would cost too much , if is around our pick , immediately

I don't think you will have to worry about us taking a D lineman in
the first round this year. Of course just my opinion. What do we do with the
great Ziggy Hood and Cam Heyward 2 previous #1 picks Or do we cut Kiesel to save money?
ROLB or Safety with the Steelers first pick. And I am betting on a safety.

Getting back to the original question - Heres my take - I don't think there is any such thing as taking a player too early if he's clearly the top remaining guy on your draft board. If you like Player A more than everyone else on your board, you don't try to guess whether he'd be available later, and you don't worry about whether Mike Mayock says that you "reached" with the pick. You go with what your draft board says and you make the pick. If you put the same grade on Player A that you have on Players X, Y and Z, then projecting where each guys' relative value to other teams comes into the equation because there is the possibility of one of those guys falling to you in the next round, and you want to take the guy that you think is least likely to fall so that you give yourself the best chance of getting 2 or more of those players. I think the same kind of rule applies for deciding whether or not to trade down. If you have one guy that you covet, you make the pick and say no thanks to the trade offer. If you like a handful of players, then it's more safe to trade down.

You probably won't find too many bigger fans of Hunt than myself, but #17 is too early. At #17, I want a player who can contribute as a rookie and who is READY to play in the NFL. I just don't think Hunt is. He has to fill out that frame and add about 20 lbs. While his game may resemble JJ Watt, his body doesn't.

Now if Hunt is still available for us in the 2nd round, then I would be much more inclined to do so. He's still raw and needs to add weight, but he can do some things as a pass rusher that very few in this draft can do. I'm not sure where he goes in the draft. I have him ranked in the 40-45 area on my board, but he may take a Chandler Jones type of climb approaching the draft, or he might not.
