Yeah, I pretty much agree. I worry about Austins size, I know Steve Smith is about the same but it's just so damn small, don't know how long he'd last. I'd also rather have Bell for RB but no way he will be there in the 4th so can't really argue his pick there either.

Austin at #17 that's a reach I would prefer a bigger receiver we have enough small receivers.

In todays NFL he would be fine. I like the draft but I think our oline is solid if healthy I wouldn't use higher then a third on it this year.

I assume this is the same guy that hit on four Steeler picks last year? If so, I'm paying close attention to this mock.

I know Goodell is pacifying the league but he's still a little guy among giants, easy for him to get busted up. The first round has to be a sure thing, not a gamble. He's exciting and if we actually took him I'd just keep my fingers crossed but I wouldn't personally make that pick.

Personally I dpont like it. Austin a midget, Barner a midget. Only 2 ass kickers on there. Steelers need to get stronger on both sides of the ball. I am going to grade this draft with one rule, size matters. I don't want 5' 8 tp 5 10 WR and a bunch of finesse players. I want ass kickers, 6 3 WR about 215 lbs , big TE's, Big backs , real big backs not ones in disguise- (No Frank the Tanks midgets), Big strong lineman, BIG LB, (sorry Spence pick was bad (sick of midgets). and big athletic DB's. Hell, If they draft a kicker I want his ass to be bigger than swissham

I have been hearing from numerous places that Austin is the perfect replacement for Mike Wallace, but is he? Does he have Mike Wallace speed, few do? Also, as others have said, can he be an outside #2 receiver with his height?

Ultimately how are his hands? I would rather take players with elite catching skills.

You think Rambo is going to be there in the 3rd? I'm getting the vibe about him that I had about Hines when he was drafted. Everyone at the bar argued with me about him.

The Steelers can evaluate WR position, its the OL,CB, RB they have problems with.

He has everything except for size. He is about the same size/speed/quickness as Desean Jackson, but has more reliable hands and I have heard nothing about him having a diva personality. He is a legit 1st round talent, but for us I question whether we would use him the way that he needs to be used to be successful. I think he's a pure slot receiver, and while we could use a new slot guy, I think we need a bigger X receiver much more. Our slot guys tend to not be used as much as the 2 outside guys.

I'm really torn on Tavon Austin. Desean Jackson, I think, is the best comparison to him as Elvis said. I'm starting to think he may not even be on the board at 17.

But if he is I'm not sure if I want him or not. Our offense has a SERIOUS lack of talent at the skill positions, and Austin could probably come in and make an impact quicker than anyone in this draft. He's a guy that other teams would actually fear (which I don't think we have a single guy you can say that about currently).

However, he's never going to be a #1 WR in this league, which picking at 17, you want to get a guy that can take over and draw coverage.

I'm starting to lean towards not wanting him, but wouldn't be too upset if we did select him, but if we do take him, we better take advantage of his skills and move him around... because just using him in the slot would be a mistake.

I like the mock other than the Austin pick. This team needs a big powerful receiver more than anything else. Maybe Burress can be that for this year, I don't know, but I want someone who is like Boldin in style not Wallace in style.

If Sanders ends up going to another team, and it looks less and less likely that will happen, this draft becomes more palatable to me as you can get a BIG receiver in round #3 as well as an impact guy in round #1.

yes it is but that was blind azz luck. i think i said it before but he had us trading up for decastro and he just liked adams for some reason. rainey played for the gators which is his favorite team. had us taking him 4th i think and paulson was his 7th pick. still impressive but i think its the first time he ever got a pick right.lol his brother works for a local cable sports station css. he was at florida and tennessees pro day. he is also a steelers fan and talked with tomlin for about 5 min at florida pro day. didnt talk about the draft but he said tomlin has a man crush on matt elam.lol

Keenan Allen is your man then. This guy is big, strong, has decent speed, good route runner, good hands. I'd be thrilled if we nabbed him with our first pick. I actually like Allen better than Patterson out of UT.

I agree, I like Allen much more than Patterson and would be content with him at #17.. On a side note and I'm not refering to you at all, I just don't understand the cookie-cutter mold mentality that many on this board have. Didn't we have a big receiver named Dallas Baker? He turned out to be something, huh? How about Limas Sweed? Ramses Barden, what a stud... If a player is 5'10 and makes plays should we trade him for a 6'3 player that doesn't? I just don't get the logic..

The logic is that on a level playing field, I'd take a Megatron over a DeSean Jackson. No one is saying to take a big guy that is a bust over a little guy that is a star. I'd take an accomplished big wideout over a little guy 7 days a week and twice on Sunday.
