I was thinking maybe this is possible with the Ravens leaving James at the alter after signing Dumerville (while he was in Baltimore to visit). Bouchette made a comment about how neither side helped themselves by parting ways, but I think the Steelers did everything they could.

Will James essentially "come crawling back" and accept probably even less than the 4 mil that they were offering before?

He will almost certainly have to take less than what he was offered a month ago from the steelers. Seems like his agent really over estimated the market for a 35 year old OLB in the NFL these days. At this point I wonder if the steelers would even bring him back. We have basically already told Worilds that its his job now, and Tomlin says "Worilds is chomping at the bit" for this opportunity. I'm interested to see how Worilds plays as a starter. Wonder if Harrison would come in as a back up with a chance to start if Worilds doesn't fit the mold?

The whole "Worilds is chomping at the bit" is just lip service in my opinion. If they thought Worilds was ready to go they wouldn't have bothered with trying to re-work Harrison's contract... And wouldn't have brought in Victor Butler. I think the FO is thinking we NEED James.

Yep I agree. Make him a solid offer less than the $4 mil a year for 2 years and during that time determine if Worilds will ever be a fit as an OLB. If not see what he has to offer if we were to move him inside or don't re-sign him to a long term contract. But either way be prepared to have someone in 2 years be ready to go at OLB other than Woodley. Assuming Woodley has a bounce back year.

Of course they'd be open to it...because there isnt a ton of interest in him, haha. And I wouldnt take him back for anything more than a one year vet min role...to backup Worilds and be a situational pass rusher. The end! Time to move on!

Woodley will be fine, and we're not going to re-sign James to play inside

I think they're planning for Worilds not to be "the guy" and if he steps up then it's a nice to have at this point. My guess is they want(ed) James to start for 1 more year to draft a guy to groom behind him for a year.

I don't want to break the bank on him either but back up Worilds? C'mon.

I'm not sure James was ever really healthy last year. He did seem to be getting stronger late in the year though. I think he's got 1 more sold season in him.

I think the ultimate question here is....have the Steelers moved on? If they have, even if he wants to come back he may be out of luck.

James rolled the dice and lost. I really like JH and he did great things for this organization. His 100 yard return for a TD ranks right up there with Swann going off on the Cowboys in Super Bowl X as greatest personal SB memories, but I think it may be time for all parties to move on.

as many of you know im in the sports promotion business... promoting sports shows.. auctions... buying and selling sports memorabilia .. auctioning stadiums for the NFL and MLB.... and i have one rule.. when i make an offer for a sports collection i want to buy... and tell the people when i walk out the door.. my offer walks with me.. so if yo call me back.. i will come back... i will buy it... but as i call it "a penalty clause" kicks in ... so i wil buy it for less.. in james case i think the "peanlty doubles" ...i mean i loved the guy... when hines left he was mad for a few days then said F it .. and wanted to retire as a steeler... james on the other had wanted to go to a team that played the steelers twice a year... wanted to show us we made a mistake to cut him.. wanted to hurt our playoff chances and try to beat us twice a year.. so i think the penalty for leaving is 2 mil .. and the penalty for wanting to beat us twice a year is another 2 million... so boom.. sign him for 2 mil.. take it or flip burgers at McD

I disagree that James wanted to play for a rival that badly. James wanted to play, and get paid... and Baltimore and Cleveland both had needs so his agent threw out comments about he would love to play there... It's strictly for business purposes.

Interested in buying my Steelers card collection? Cards from 1950 Bowmans to current cards. Almost all PSA 9 or higher. Nearly 700 cards. Near complete sets from 1969-1991. Bradshaw rookie PSA 8.

    $10,000.

You can view it at the PSA Set Registry.

Then if he's not willing to play that part then I wouldnt bring him back. They need to see what they have in Worilds...he has only got the chance on spot duty to show what he has...people have been wanting to see what he has (on a more full time basis) and this is the ONLY way that will happen. If Harrison and Woodley are both in there he will not get the chance. They need to see what Worilds can do...if he cant be a full time starter...fine...he can still be a solid backup and they can try and re-sign him after the year as such. If he becomes the next great LB...even better. But by bringing James back they will never know unless he has a role like I mentioned.

Its time to move on at LB (plus a couple other spots) on the team and role with the young guys and see what happens.

If Worilds was ready the coaching staff would know. The fact that they did try so hard to keep James makes me think that Worilds isn't ready, and the FO knows he never will be. If we don't draft an OLB early (or acquire one in FA) then I'll concede I was wrong and they must think he can handle it...

When they let Harrison walk I think everyone on that team/staff knew that Harrison was going to be just fine replacing Porter. I don't feel like that's the case now.

    We shall see.

I agree and I don't think them wanting JH back has anything to do with them not believing in Worilds, they need depth, they weren't offering JH the moon, they were asking him to take a pay cut. With his age and health concerns, he should be used in a reduced roll to help him make it through the season while Worilds mans the bulk of the duty. Then if Worilds isn't living up to the task, you have JH to fall back on.

PSA registry .. im impressed.. but 700 cards psa 9s including old bowman have to be more than 10,000 ? complete sets 1969 thru the 70s are nice.. not much value after about 1981 (montana rookie) .. 84 some value with elway and marino... 86 rice.. i will be very very honest here.. we dont pay much... we live in florida 6 months a year where they give that stuff away so we dont have to .. very nice stuff that you have .. have you ever been to the cincinnati moeller show or the pitt robert moris show?

I dont see why they wouldnt have at least attempted to keep Harrison like they did. He is a talent (still a LITTLE left in him)...I dont see it meaning anything to do with Worilds...a team should always want to TRY keep their PROVEN and talented players if they can (if they want them that is).

As far as the Porter example...that was when Tomlin first came in...I don't remember all the details of his release...if they tried to lower his pay/etc like with Harrison or not...but Tomlin had no loyalties to Porter. I see that as a little different, but I get your point.

I really had a feeling this would happen. I mean even BA isn't calling him and doesn't Harrison have a home in AZ? He must be done or the NFL must be done with him. It's just a sad reality that this is more and more becoming a young man's game. I wouldn't mind seeing him in a backup role though.

Well if he does comeback he will have a chip on his shoulder again. I would be willing to take him back.
