We may still be a year or two away with OL. When it gels, i think it may be one of the best in the NFL

Until our seconday and OL is fixed, doubtful we win a playoff game let alone a Super Bowl

Fix key areas… secondary, wr and rb… add DL. OL is young they will gel.

Honestly that's a fair point. But treading water with them isn't a great strategy. These past 3 weeks are exhibit A of where they stand against the contenders of the league. They're not close with them so why not do something different that helps you land a franchise qb?

We are closer than you think, but trading away our core only sets us back further.

coaching is a big problem with this. the secondary has Minkah (All Pro) and JPJ (pretty talented) + Elliott (very talented) and other decent players.

OLINE is young, very young - and POORLY coached.

Dude they're not close at all. And keeping guys like Watt and Minkah here until they retire will just waste their careers giving us nothing in return which sets back the core further because they have little to no across the board depth; hence to why they can't overcome injuries like the contenders can. They're not close until they have a franchise qb.

Steelers got a huge reprieve by Ben Johnson staying in Detroit. Rooney's have to strike on this. Trade Tomlin for draft capital and hire Ben Johnson. Steelers need new leadership at the head coaching position.

so many drink the cool aid, year in and year out. they are not close -

44% of the teams make the playoffs.

so......some team could slip in, sneak by , the ODDS are VERY VERY SLIM.

we are in the VERY VERY SLIM category.

When we slipped by w Ben, we had an exceptional talent, in Ben. and a GREAT OC......and a GREAT D

The problem is free agency happens after four years, so if they are two years away, that leaves one year to be the best. The difference between Cowher and Tomlin is the assistant coaches. Tomlin isn't innovative, and he doesn't hire assistants that are.

I'm not opposed to a completely different direction, it's just the Steelers will NOT trade Tomlin. Hell, they're probably not even going to trade Watt and Minkah.

Watt still has alot of value. Minkah definitely needs to go. Too much money for horrid play.

Agree... sometimes you get more for less. Especially trading talent for talent + draft capital. That 30m contract spent on Watt can be used to grab talent for depth.

Just did a venture to OTC to see what this lineup looks like in 2026:

Only players on defense with a contract in 2026, sans players on rookie deals, are Minkah, Heyward Queen and Highsmith. I'm sure guys like TJ will be brought back but putting it out there. One offense it's even thinner with only Muth having a deal, sans guys on rookie deals.

This gives the Steelers two off-seasons to spend roughly 145m, in house and in FA.

That's a lot of holes to fill in FA and the draft. Guys will be brought back, but others will leave. This roster isn't a season or two away from being anything.

There's not much to blow up. First off they would NEVER trade Tomlin. That's not even realistic at all.

Watt is going into his last year and he'll be 31. Clearly he's past his prime but I expect them to restructure/extend him for two seasons.

So he'd be on essentially a 3 year deal for like $50 million with maybe $25 million guaranteed. I think that would be fair.

He'd be 33 after the contract and they could probably go year to year after that if he had anything left. He's in the Steelers pantheon, he's not playing anywhere else.

Minkah will be 29 next year, with an average cap hit of $23.5 mil for the next two years. I don't know what kind of trade value he would have at that age with that contract. Probably not much.

Who else would bring in draft capital and save money that isn't a young building block? Friermuth? I guess you could try to get some kind of return for GP if you're not gonna sign him, but I can't imagine that happening.

That's really all they have to "blow up".

We do not have a QB
We do not have a number 2 receiver
The offensive line is a mess.
Our defense can not stop anyone when the opposing qb gets rid of the ball in under three seconds.

So, you just pointed out another failure in Tomlin. He knows that the Rooney's won't get rid of him, but he's living in his own fears to ask the rooneys for younger and better coaches. Or, he's continuing to smell himself ... in thinking that he's that great of a coach ... that he can win with any cards he's dealt. Remember, when he took over as head coach, he didn't bring in with him one coach. He used what was already in place ... except for two of the greatest OC's. But, they left because they didn't get the head coaching job.
