    Does anyone know how much it helps in the playoffs? I know in regular season they give the home team about a field goal edge.

    What’s the excuse for our porous defense? Even when they were healthy , they were porous . Indy, Dallas, Giants ran all over us , Cleveland the first game??

    They drafted Williams, Gibbs, LaPorta three of their biggest playmakers in the first round.

    I guess I’m still not happy with those mid week games because of quality/injury risk.

    I understand what you are saying about the offense, I was mainly stating the state of defense or the lack of for the Steelers.
    Listening to the fan in Pittsburgh today and they all agreed our defense is overrated and this was before all the injuries

    You see I didn’t include the playoff teams, Eagles and Ravens. All the teams I mentioned are not going to the playoffs
    The Charger game, Herbert played only a half

    Dominant NFL defenses don’t exist these days. Our problem is offense first. The defense is far from perfect, but it is good enough to win vs. anyone if the offense does its job.

    How can you look at yourself in the mirror and say that?
    Philly game, offense had no chance of getting on field let alone scoring.
    Raven game same thing, 90yd drive and 70yd drive by Ravens!
    I also understand that the rules entirely favor the offense. So I agree with that part
    Also, no rules preventing you from tackling rbs This is one of the highest paid defenses in the league. IDK guess I was expecting a little more.

    Also, offense unlike last year won games. Bengal game is one, that secondary couldn’t stop a nosebleed

    The last 2 games he has 9 receptions for 130 yards. That is far and away better than the other WR's combined.

    Agreed, I thought for sure they would see what Cam Sutton can do on the outside after watching the Trice/Pierre show this weekend.

    Against Philly the offense kept putting the defense back in the field before their heart rates could even normalize. These guys aren’t robots, and the other guys get paid too. Every single NFL defense has broken at some point this year. Every defense gives up long drives. That 90 yard drive came after a momentum shifting fumble. It was bad, but it was also mostly passing vs. our secondary that was missing 3 starters by that time.

    Agreed. All I am getting at is some on here state injuries and scheduling. BS
    Look at KC and Detroit, injuries all year long.
    If you want an excuse to be believable, just say we don’t have the overall talent.
    Also, since the obvious advantage is for the offensive side of the ball, why aren’t we taking advantage of it? Once again lack of personnel.

    From one source I found:

    regular season;

    There is a significant break after the 2018 season. From 2010 to 2018, home teams averaged a scoring margin of 2.33 points per game and won 57.1% of the time. Since 2019, that number has dropped to 0.54 points per game and a win percentage of 50.9%. That’s a difference of two full points. In 2019, away teams even had a positive scoring margin of 0.14, but home teams won 52.1% of the time.

    playoffs;

    The playoffs are a different animal, though. From 2010 to 2020, there were 112 non-Super-Bowl matchups in the playoffs. The home team won 62.5% of the time, winning by an average of 4.2 points per game. However, we have to retake a more detailed look:

    • Home teams in the wild card round only won 47.8% of the time, and by a margin of 0.65.
    • Home teams in the divisional round won 75% of the time, with an average margin of 5.72 points per game.
    • Home teams in conference championships won 68.2% of the time, with an average margin of 8.2 points per game.
    The home-field advantage seems massive in the divisional round and the Championship game. Home teams in the divisional win more often over a larger sample size which appears to be the peak of home-field advantage.

    Can’t say I totally disagree with that. it’s just kinda nice that we’re not the only one getting screwed for a change.

    They are BS!!! I get the players are younger men but there is a lot of pounding on the body in an NFL game. It doesn't spring back in 4 days.

    One thing that is hurting the defense is their sacks are down, nobody on the DL except Heyward can sack the QB. Even Watt sack numbers are down and Highsmith too because he has missed games.
