Fear of losing Wilson and Fields in 2025!

Imagine that ....Take away the only real Wr, and He's struggling......Yet Fields had Pickens 100% for 6 games, and couldn't get him the ball.

 

You don't have to. I was just throwing that out there. Most Qbs are going to struggle when You take their Number 1 Wr away.....especially when they have really nothing else at Wr. Almost everyone we have left are Wrs nobody else wanted.

 

He struggled against Washington and Baltimore too. Washington he got it together in the 4th quarter to kinda salvage a really bad day, but the only reason we didn't smoke Baltimore the first time is Wilson playing poorly. He obviously has had some really good days too (Cincy being the best one, but the first two games against the NY teams were good too).

Russ' deep ball has brought an element to the offense that hasn't existed since Ben was here (outside of 2 games of Mason Rudolph in 2023), and its helped us become a solid offense. However, he's not really showed the consistent ability to move the ball without it. Some of that is on Najee and the run game, but some of that is Russ too.

My hope is that he turns it around to end the year and we get a playoff win. That would probably trigger a 3 year extension (hopefully at 30 million a year or less), and keep Russ a Steeler for the rest of his career. Otherwise we have a tough decision to make. Do we take the chance on Darnold? Do we keep Fields around as a bridge? Or do we go straight to the draft? Russ is the best option in the short term if we want to try to win, but if he isn't good enough to win anything this year, what makes us think he will be as he ages a couple more years? Idk. Lots of football left before we have to make a decision.

 

Well, I would assume if we make an investment like that we would get a #2 WR. Pickens is a top 10 WR in his own right (though, admittedly not at Jefferson's level), but we would need another threat in either a FA or #1 pick at WR.

I don't know for sure if it is a system thing, or if it is just Darnold playing for a competent team as a starter for the first time in his career. It could be either. He's having a great year. If Russ wants more money than Darnold, I don't see why Sam wouldn't be a fine choice for us.

 

Unfortunately, if Sellers stays on his current trajectory, he could be a top 5 pick in 2026.

Though, that draft could be really stacked if a couple guys continue to develop and some declare.
