    for now......

many predicted a strong start - they had a PANSY schedule on the front end. this GREAT defense was going to win many games and they assisted early.

I don't suspect 3rd best in the conf by the end of week 17...... we will all wait and see.....

I suspect we will be at the 11 , maybe 12 win mark. I think many had 11 in the target range.

BUT - no playoff win is not a success for me.

Many pundits had 11 wins at the start of the season? Maybe people on this board but didn’t see any outside of here predicting that.

The standard is set very high in Pittsburgh, so losing in Rd. 1 of the playoffs isn't accepted by many (me included), even with a very good regular season record. Don't get me wrong, I'm glad we're winning more than losing in the regular season, but the post season is what counts most (and hurts the most when we lose).

Assuming we lose to the Ravens and Chiefs which we probably will, then that makes the last game against the Bengals very important. There is a big difference between being the number 5 seed and playing at Houston than being the #6 seed and playing at Baltimore.

With pickens this roster is playoff caliber. Sounds strange to say we depend so much on one receiver but the lack of depth there is one weakness, another is our DC imo. Otherwise with the talent we should make a playoff run. Like another poster or two said, anything less than the AFCCG will be a disappointment. That sounds strange to say too after going through the 2010’s and the 70’s dynasty years where anything less than a Lombardi was a failure.

its Nolls fault, he a Dan Rooney set the standard. It is what it is, Cowher and Tomlin have had to deal with it.

There are 4 teams in the NFL this season who haven't scored 30 points in a game. The Patriots, the Giants, the Raiders and the Chiefs. One team is 13-1 and the other 3 are fighting for the #1 draft pick.

Well I guess that makes you a glass is half empty kind of guy. Again, I don’t give damn about playoff game. I want to win superbowls. Everyone with half a clue knew this season was going to be tough. As far as I’m concerned they’ve surpassed expectations already. Anything more is just a bonus. However, I firmly believe had we been worse this season we would be better off in the long run. A draft or two in the top 10 would help their situation immensely. Now, we will draft in the bottom half and have to hope true impact players fall to us. Or we mortgage the future, trade up, and hope whomever we drafted pans out.

it's not 1 yr in a vacuum, it would be the collective last 8 yrs.

there is not one active HC in the league with that failure rate.

If the Steelers get blown out in the first round of the playoffs it will not be a successful season no matter how you slice it. The critics, both media and the fans base will roast MT over the coals. If they are competitive and lose by a play here or there then they have taken a baby step forward towards a successful season. Win a playoff game and it is a successful season. It’s been such a long time since a playoff win that I think that is the only qualifying factor. JMHO.

True, but their team is not "better" than ours. They may have a better record because they win all of their close games... but that team is not a "better" roster than ours. We can beat them, and probably should on a short week at home.

They will be a very tough out in the playoffs on their home field regardless.

It's definitely an interesting stat. Just goes to show how that team is built differently than in year's past with the high flying offense.

That's what the Steelers needed and got in 2005 first round game vs. Cincy. The Steelers may still have won, as proved by beating Manning and Denver the next 2 weeks, but having Palmer getting injured was a big help.

Super Bowl was never going to happen, but a Playoff WIN was the goal.

not getting to that is failure.

unless you like losing, which is what some here seem to enjoy and defend

Predicted 11-6 on one of the poles

Super Bowl or bust for me. Not sure how many chances I have left. Our 6 were won with a franchise QB. Most SB's are won by teams with a franchise QB. Journeymen can and have won it. I'd say Nick Foles was the best of them and Trent Dilfer worse of them. I know Wilson was a franchise QB long ago. I do think if Wilson had two big time receivers and a healthy team we'd have a shot at it.

I thought this was going to be a 6-7 win season. I had zero faith in Fields and little in Wilson. Steelers performed better then I expected and are in the Playoffs. The organization may find it successful but for me, meh. Although I do take pride in how many good seasons we have had in the SB era. To be fair to the head honchos, they have kept the Steelers relevant in the SB era.
