Probably wouldn’t have made much of a difference but I would have elected for a 1st and 30 over 2nd and 20. After the play it would have been 2nd and 9 instead of first and 10. Either way, Steelers defense has got to quit giving up these huge chunk plays. I almost would rather have 3rd and 5 over 3rd and 15. I don’t know why the Steelers Defense struggles on long to go plays. Frustrating.

I made that same point in another thread. I referred to it as a Tomlin weighty moment. When the ref said "declined", my son and I both had a wtf moment. I remember him doing the same thing before but don't remember when that was. I'm not a Tomlin fan or a hater.

What about 2nd and 9? Most likely that’s what we would’ve faced.

Tomlin’s dumb game management decisions have really started to show in these last 2 losses to Cleveland and Philly. Tomlin is just a complete butcher when it comes to knowing when and how to use his timeouts. He let 30 seconds run off at the end of the 1st half before Boswell kicked a FG and when he was asked about it after the game he said some garbage answer like “I was receiving information”. Like what the hell is Tomlin doing to continue to absolutely botch these timeouts at the end of halves. Is he paying attention?? Does he not know how to read the game clock, or is he just pain dumb?? I just don’t get it why these clock management blunders continue to happen every damn week with Tomlin. It will costs them big time come playoff time if he doesn’t fix it.

Really makes no difference to me. 3 downs to get 30 or 2 to get 20

Even the Non-Brady announcer was asking why didn't Mike Tomlin accept a 10 yard penalty. 10 yard penalties are hard to turn down; unless their offense is averaging over 10 yards per play, you think you would accept the penalty.

I don’t know but I think 2nd and 390 might be a difficult pick up.

My point is if we couldn’t stop 2nd and 20, we definitely weren’t going to stop 1st and 30.

Secondary has been player watching more than worrying about zone responsibilities. Yes when Barkley is there he can take a 5 yard pass and go to the house with it but that doesn't mean you abandon your guy to stare into the backfield.

In regards to the choice I'd edge more toward the 1st and 30 because of the potential to get another unforced error that backs them up more. Both 1st and 30 and 2 and 20 have analytics that say maybe 80% pass and 20% delayed run or draw to pick up some yards and make it more manageable. They take that extra 10 and maybe Watt gets home or a bad pass makes tougher to convert. As it was they basically just gave them the 1st down.

Everyone else would accept the penalty, and everyone else would not have punted on 4th and 7. Tomlin is smarter than everyone else, and he's gonna show you. Just like a guy who uses a big word, but has no clue what it actually means.

He has recently been making ones where he chooses 4 and 1 over 3rd and 11, figuring his defense can hold if the other team decides to go for it. I mean great that he has confidence but the tush-push has become so popular everyone thinks about going on 4th and 1.

Really this whole question is kinda irrelevant. If a team can get a 1st down on a 2nd, and 20....it figures they will get a 1st down on a 1st , and 30 with 3 downs to go.

I wish they would do away with that stupid play. We get flagged for running into the center on a FG but the Center is allowed to maul over the same guy on the stupid tushy pushy play?

And the let the play go on until they get over the line of gain, meanwhile Harris or Warren still have their legs moving but a quick whistle ends the play.

1st and 30. Yeah, the Eagles would have gained at least 25 yards of it back by 3rd down... it would have been better to pin them back.

We need every square inch, as our zone schemes get picked apart. Austin is so enamored with rushing 4, 95% of the time, QB has at least 3secs to survey our coverage schemes, looking off our ILBs and Safeties, for chunks at a time. That's why Tomlin should've accepted the penalty.

Problem is you're not getting holding calls and they hand you one, so you decline it! Whether by bias or not, if you decline a call you've been screaming to get, you aren't going to get as many going forward!
