They lost by 14, that one thing didn’t cost the game. That was the #1 defense in the league and we didn’t have everyone. The fight (see below). The BS 15 yarder on Philly “that happened after the kick”. (Amazing how they saw that and not the cause of the fight). It boiled down to the back fumbling and us not putting any pressure on the QB. No defensive backfield can hold up for 10-15 seconds. How someone can be stupid enough to blame it on a 4th and 7 with 3 minutes to go, I have no idea. Teams lose, the lions lost yesterday at home.

I guess everyone on here knew what to do. I tell people all the time, I would have had the fleet out to sea and planes in the air on Dec 7, 1941. You defend your harbor, who couldn’t see that coming? We didn’t want to win. I say it all the time along with evacuating the twin towers at 6am on Sept. 11, 2001. I see a lot in hindsight, people should listen.

It was more like 10min I'm pretty sure...but agree with with the choice to rush 4 every single play. Maddening.

Maybe, maybe not. I wasn't a fan of the fake punt, but not because it was aggressive. I like aggression, but the circumstances of the game must determine when to be aggressive. But even if I disagree with a call Tomlin makes, I can appreciate being aggressive. It shows a desire to win. Punting the ball away was akin to waving the white flag. He gave up. I know in his mind he didn't, but if you look at how the game was unfolding, there was no chance in hell of us getting 2 more possessions. It just wasn't going to happen. Yet he kicked it away anyway. Just the ultimate loser mentality.

To go back to your point. Who cares if people agreed with the fake punt or not. It's a different play in a different game. The two things have nothing to do with each other.

And would some people have complained if he went for it and didn't make it? Yes, but so what. It was the right call. It was the only call.

I stand by my earlier opinion of the Steelers before the season started. This team is still a year out... and needs upgrades at WR, RB, G and T on offense. DT/DE and CB on defense.

I'm sold on McCormick and Frazier on the OL. The needle is pointing up for these guys. The rest, though.....

Which means NOT A great coach, period. Just a solid coach that can't compete with the best of his peers. He is outclassed and outmanuevered in the playoffs. The only way Tomlin will make another SB is to have an OVERWHELMING amount of pro-bowl talent that can overcome poor planning, coaching and clock management. Tomlin is along for the ride much like I would be if I were HC of the Steelers.

The only thing that has me pause is we could, if Rooney's get cheap, get a string of Tomlin-clones and be a laughingstock for the rest of my life. At least Tomlin's teams keep things interesting, but I grow tired of rooting for a team that I know will fail in January, like clockwork. I didn't feel that way about Cowhers teams, even when they did fail, it felt more like an outlier, but Cowher had his post-season warts too, just not NEARLY as bad as Tomlin.

No, it was a totally different situation. That was early in the game with a lead. It was an unnecessary risk that blew up in their faces.

At least Cowher won playoff games and made many AFC Championship appearances and was very competitive in those appearances. Steelers haven't sniffed a conference championship.... and the last time they did in '16 season, Patriots had the game won by the 3rd quarter.

They were outmanned, but they were also clearly out-coached on both sides of the ball, don't be putting your head in the dirt pretending otherwise. Methinks too many have been dumbed-down by Tomlin's coaching inabilities to see a mediocre coach as a great coach. Once one comes to the epiphany that there are FAR better head coaches and coordinators around the league, only then can they see Tomlin for what he is...a cheerleader and bestus buddy, father figure that isn't much of an actually COACH. He's a good guy, but not much of a coach. X and O's might as well be sanskrit to Tomlin. It's not his thing and without a top 2 OC or DC, he is overwhelmed by the dozen plus superior head coaches each and every year. He's not the worst HC, but he's not in the top 15 best head coaches either.

Better roster and better coaching staff. I'd trade our HC for theirs in a second and even toss in some money or some draft picks (if we could, we can't).

It was a combination of many factors. Poor coaching was one of them. The players do not execute zone consistently and they aren't getting enough pressure rushing only four most of the time. It burned them badly against the Eagles.

I'm not sure it cost them the game, but it was silly to count on the defense to get a stop there. They hadn't been getting them most of the game. Of course, they should have gotten a first down by penalty on the punt, but that doesn't mean Tomlin's conservative choices didn't hurt the team again.

This is a message board to discuss the Steelers and many of us remember when the Steelers were actual contenders and had above-average coaching. It's in the rear-view mirror these days.

This is NOT a cheerleading board, last I checked. Much like politics, I don't want a silly echo-chamber of "aw, we'll get em next time". I have no problem with others posting the silly feel-goods and cover-ups and excuses, but they should have no problem with those of us that have been tired of the same old garbage (on the field) the past 15 years. I'll keep posting my protests against the obviously subpar coaching until we have good coaching...does that really bother you? Keeps things spicy.

That’s the only response warranted for people such as yourself. You say the same stupid crap every single day. You’re not capable of having an intelligent conversation. The only thing you’ve got is some variation of tomlin bad. Our hof qb spots a team 28 points in a quarter and yall are sitting there blaming the head coach. It’s truly dumbfounding.
