That's how I feel too. He's never going to be a #1, but he's an okay #2 and a good slot guy. Great #3. Might not sound like the end of the world, but with no Wallace, this really hurts. Yeah, we could draft a couple, but even for good receivers it often takes a couple years to really hit their stride.

Yeah, but if they could pick up a veteran receiver (Emmanuel Sanders) for, essentially, a 3rd-round pick, don't you think they'd pull the trigger?

Marcia's biologoical talk is ticking. He wants another baby. They need receivers. They didn't bring Sanders up to New England to throw back some oysters and drink some Makuh's Mahk.

im usually pretty confident that the FO has a plan, but im not sure this offseason. they are losing some young talent and the vets that should be gone are still around.

if they lose Sanders i think they will have some big problems on offense next year. without Miller for who knows how long, Wallace gone, and now Sanders possibly leaving it could be a struggle for Ben. im not sure who his weapons will be. Brown is a good wr, but he isnt the type of guy that can carry the offense and hes not going to have teams game planning to stop him. they need some play makers.

im not in panic mode, but its not like this was a great team last year coming off a super bowl win and now they are trying to reload. this was a team that struggled last year and as of right now they havent done much to get better. if they arent going to make moves to get better they need to cut ties with some vets this year otherwise they are dragging this out and we will be sitting in the same position next offseason.

Ben isnt getting any younger and the his future replacement isnt on the roster.

I'm not saying they are going to sign him to an offer, I'm just saying the Patriots have a history of using RFA. But on a side note, I wonder what Ben is thinking about all of this....We all knew we weren't gonna keep Wallace, but Ben wanted to, and now his TE Miller health is up in the air, and his soon to be #2 WR is gaining interest from another team...

Which is a point I meant to make about why I feel NE is a serious threat to us in their pursuit of another WR.

People point out that they have limited draft picks but, to reframe that reality, I think that's WHY they would be more committed towards signing a guy like Sanders.

Brady's clock is ticking, they need WR's, and they don't really have time to develop one. They need a vet who can step in and play right away. Sanders seems to fit the mold of the guys they've had success with in the past (Branch, Givens, T Brown, etc).

Anyone know the Pats' salary cap situation? Sure would be nice to hear they don't have much room left. I know they have signed some big contracts lately.

We drafted him in the 3rd round and as the 3 or 4 receiver he never got enough balls thrown to him to make the ascertion he isnt starting material, he has made some key receptions while he was here, he's been on the team for 3 years so why let him go now after he knows the system? We need him to get him more involved in the offense, so to let him walk only highlights how stupid this team management has suddenly become, losing sanders means we have lost 6 players, the same as the rats, are we improving this team, or making it worse, I see nothing being done to make it better so far, so i'll go with making it worse...

I believe last week I posted that someone could take Sanders away from us and some of you acted as if that was no big deal? Yes Francis, it is a big deal! Losing your 1 and 3 WRs and signing Plax as a band aid in the meantime is not a good plan. Some say if Sanders goes we would get a little something in return but Id rather have a WR who could easily be a 2 on this team. Young Money is going bankrupt quickly!

Sanders had 44 receptions last year, give him more targets and he will make that stat higher, did Plax catch more than two balls last year, i cant remember, since he was hardly on the field, we need to keep sanders, we dumped washington to the titans a few years ago after we developed him, and he's still starting for them, so lets dont blow away another receiver after investing 3 years in his development, hell we're becoming a farm club for the NFL.....

I really would not care either way. He is a 5'10" 180lb wr we got in the 3rd round from SMU. I understand that he knows the system blah ba blah but do you really want him as our #2 WR. I don't, Id rather let Plex sit his 6'6" frame out there and catch some back sholder throws even if he is old and a band aid while we draft some more "young money wrs". Wr in the NFL are a dime a dozen like Sanders, the Megatrons, Fitz, J.Jones (atl) and A. Johnson those are special players but 5'10" 180 you can teach them to run routes and not drop the ball on the way to the endzone(balt). Not worried and dont care

This is what the Pats do best- get in another team's heads. They will try to shake up a competitor's draft board. They will steal talent away. It is very urgent for them. They have been hemorrhaging talent at critical positions longer than the Steelers have. Now Belichick looks like the Emperor that has no clothes. He and Tawmmy are desperate for one more run to add to their legacy. Once they retire/fade away, the Pats will return to their former glory--the Tony Eason/Matt Cavanaugh era Pats. It does put more pressure on the Black-and-Gold to draft better, and develop the young talent faster.

Let's not read too much into this, I mean honestly, Sanders' best season was 44 catches. Even if the Pats made him an offer.... what kind of offer would you expect to make to a guy with just 94 career receptions over 3 years?

I know we cut Colon and after the Jun 2nd date we will clear like 5.5 million in cap? I'm not sure on that number, I am no cap genius but I read that somewhere else. Anyway what I am getting at is if the Pats place an offer on Sanders, could the Sanders refuse it and sign his tender, and then when the money clears on june 2nd the front office could negotiate a new contract with him?

People keep saying Sanders "knows the system." Didn't we put in a new system last year under a new OC?

I could see Plax scoring 8 or 9 td's this year. I have a feeling he and Ben are going to get back in sync. I was in Cleveland for the first game back for Plax. He did not have his legs. It was obvious he was in no position to even be out on that field. It wasn't for lack of talent, but for lack of conditioning. I think he'll contribute this year with a full off-season of conditioning, OTA's, Latrobe, etc.

Me too. It's easy to underestimate how well we did when we picked Brown and Sanders together. Numerous WR picks just don't work out. There is no guarantee we find a replacement in the draft.

Meaningless, or is Brown hinting at Sanders' departure?

While I would prefer to keep Sanders, getting a 3rd rounder in this deep draft AND an immediate release of 1.323 million in cap space while there are a lot of decent players waiting for their phones to ring isn't the worst situation. We could use the money to get someone else at a position of immediate need and free up a draft pick. Bottom line - if it happens, there's no need for a bunch of Chicken Littles to sprout up.

Yeah, just saw that on the home page, don't know if he's just having fun or knows for sure. My first reaction when hearing about his visit to NE was not good, put a little dent in my outlook for next season but we are compensated with a 3rd rounder, plenty of receivers in this draft or maybe they sign Breaston. And as Shiner pointed out, a rook would only be a year behind since everyone was learning a new offense last year anyway.

Let's not lose the big picture here:
Our Backup QB situation was adressed this week. Our staff and FO believe we have the pieces to get a pretty decent OL going with what we have in-house.
So far, our biggest O needs will be RB & WR. If we lose Sanders, we'll have another 3rd rounder.
I think we're still hunting Beanie Wells (not sayin' he's the answer)
    But I'm pretty sure that with a 1st, a 2nd and 2 3rd rounders, we can get a RB and a WR.

I know we could have a decent draft with 4 picks in the 1st three rounds and address the needs of WR and RB if Sanders was to go to NE. But from a developmental stand point, Ben is only getting older, and it takes time to develop a WR and also the chemistry a WR has with his QB. Now i'm not saying Sanders is Ben's Wes Welker, but it's a double edged sword if we lose him.

I don't think it's the end of the world if he goes - I'm sure the FO are on it.

However, the people saying they won't miss Sanders have been playing too much Madden or something.

The draft doesn't become meaningless after the first 2 rounds - I still expect us to hold on to our 3rd round picks if they're producing. Which Sanders has.

The guy is injury prone with bad feet, they can have him, he's an easy one to replace, you can draft another Sanders for pocket change.

With the pocket change that we have left ( 4mil?) I say save it for the draft picks. Plus we get another $5.5 mil after june 2nd,,I say lets stash the cash and add that to when we get rid of the other trash. We could be $20mil under the cap next year, that sounds a hell of a lot better than paying out for cheap band aids.
