    Great, Just Great.
Can we keep just one potentially promising player?

This is great news people!!! We've got a playmaker who knows how to create turnovers, something we've been lacking at the CB position. Cortez Allen was involved in 5 turnovers the last two games!

Let Lewis join his buddy Wallace on the hunt for "greener" pastures. We've actually got a starting CB now that can catch better than both of them!

I never was a Lewis fan so I'm not taking this too hard. I just hope the flashes we've seen from Cortez are more that just flashes though. Maybe we'll go get Revis and pay him the money we were gonna pay Lewis. Yeah right!

Come onnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn Curtis Brown! He's been disappointing his first two seasons, but not as disappointing a Lewis was in his first two seasons. Brown's mistakes have not been physical, and I'm sure it's a difficult defense. There is still time for him to get it together like Keenan did.

This is bad news, losing Lewis. I like Allen, but it would have been nice to have three starting CBs. Hopefully Brown and Gay will benefit each other and rise to the occasion. I don't hate Gay as a #3, but I'm not comfortable with it either. I'd much rather he be beaten out and be the #4.

I agree, I'm surprised we didn't sign him. He only went for a little over $5 million per year with $10 million guaranteed. I thought we would have paid that much. Unless he just preferred New Orleans and gave them the discount...

Ah. Well if that's true, then good for him, I guess. It's too bad he couldn't have become a decent player a year sooner, when we were in the Super Bowl and desperately needing a CB that could cover... Oh well.

Perhaps Allen will be better than Lewis in 2013, but the last time I saw them, Lewis was the better player. Allen could have a higher ceiling, though. I think he's quicker than Keenan.

A little quote from Walt's site:

" Saints sign CB Keenan Lewis (5 years, $26M; $11M guaranteed): A Grade
Keenan Lewis was the second-best cornerback still available in free agency. He's better than both Sean Smith and Cary Williams, yet he's slated to make less per year than both of them. This is not because teams didn't view Lewis as an inferior cornerback; he simply took a discount to play with the Saints. According to the Chicago Sun-Times' Sean Jensen, another team offered Lewis a much larger contract.

This is obviously an awesome acquisition for the Saints. They're filling their huge corner need with a very talented player at a very reasonable price."

The part that sticks out to me is the last bit about a discount and another team offered him more. Interesting if this is true. Wonder who the team was that offered more. Maybe Lewis was set on playing in NO IF they wanted him and he'd take less to do so. Interesting...

Well the guy wanted to play for his hometown team. In other words he was only coming back if Pittsburgh overspent for him.

I cant wait until midseason when Gay gets burnt for a TD and someone curses and wants to fire Tomlin because he let Lewis walk.

You know it will happen. Book it.

Wont miss Wallace but I think we will miss Keenan. We have Brown and thats about it .. And I like Gay but I dont believe in bringing back players that have previously left ...

Thats the bad side of getting these tidbits from the media...ya never know whats what. But I figured I'd share them.

The key points I think is he probably would have liked to stay...but at the same time if NO wanted him...he would have liked to go home...and he did. who knows...I wanted him back...but theres nothing we can do about it...and we have to trust in the team!

I think there is more to this than what's been reported. maybe lewis did not want to comeback to pittsburgh...and he made them know it. it just did not make sense that the steelers never made an offer if they really like him.

I'm also not convinced that he'll have a good season next year. he was a very slow developer. Tomlin/Colbert did not think Lewis is that good of a CB.

Very True...we are fortunate enough to have one of the NFLs best-ever Defensive Backs as our DC. I am fairly confident that he is a sound judge of talent/potential. Folks need to stop listening to all the media type. Coaches are in practice EVERY day and see things we do not.

Timmons, Woodley...ooops I forgot, <a lot around there think that> Timmons isn't that good and Woodley is lazy and out of shape, and the Steelers overpaid for those guys and should have let them test the market.

    ;)

We'll see how good they are without Wallace. Everyone knows with Wallace on the field and his speed he would take the top off of the defense allowing both Brown and Sanders some room to maneuver and get open. I think their play benefited from Wallace being on the field. I like Brown and love Sanders' potential but we'll see this year how much Wallace really influenced defenses with his speed.

No love here though for Wallace just my observation. When I saw the numbers he got I was happy they let him go. Never really cared that the Steelers let big names go in free agency but this year seems like our team is being plundered and it's making me a little nervous about next year.

Timmons I agree is a great player and have said that for a while now. However since Woodley signed his contract he's taken a step backwards...make that 10 steps backwards. To me he is overpaid for what he has contributed since signing his big contract.

I also believe it is not all Woodley's fault. He was great when Harrison was a beast and teams would have to double team him. Harrison just hasn't been the same the last 2 years and I think in part that is why Woodley's play has dropped off. If we draft a big time pass rushing OLB to complement Woodley on the other side I think he will be back to his old form.

While I think part of their success has been due to Wallace's speed I also think it is a product of Haley's dink and dunk offense. Simular to the way Welker put up 5 100+ reception season in New England without a 4.3 guy on the outside.

And when Holmes was traded for next to nothing and a lot of people were thinking that it wasn't bad because the Steelers still had Wallace, the general fear was that Wallace benefitted from double teams that Holmes drew.
