I thought I read that Colbert said they were going to let him go test the FA waters, and see what he came back with and make an offer then...? I wonder if Lewis means they didn't make him an offer beforehand (which we already knew), or if he came to them and said, "New Orleans offered me $5M per year. Do you want to beat it?" and Colbert said No. I find that a little hard to believe, BUT it could also be a sign of a major attempt to get back in black in terms of money - not be constantly cutting to try and get under. Signing him definitely would have made it even harder than it already will be in future years. That, combined with how they feel about Allen, and probably assuming Gay can play decent ball like he did in 2011, and maybe some positive feelings about Curtis Brown... Maybe they really did turn him away. I don't know.

I got to wonder what his twitter post a couple weeks ago was all about then...when he said a "dream come true" or something to that effect? Did the Saints already have a deal in place well before free agency???

Isn't that the same thing that Hinesistheman posted in the OP?
