Even though Wilson (and maybe Fields) will most likely resign with the Steelers next year:

Do you think that the Steelers should look into any alternative QB options (since Wilson is 36)?

IMO, it wouldn't hurt to draft a QB in the early rounds, despite us needing other positional needs (besides QB)

However, since Wilson is 36 and Fields is more of a running threat (IMO) I'm wondering what options we'll have by next year (depending on free agency and the draft)

I honestly expect the team to resign Wilson to at least a three year deal. That way, the team can bolster its Roster one more time in the 2025 Draft to fill up any remaining major holes. 2026 is where the search begins for that class is stacked.

Will be plenty of Round 1 options in 2026. Not so much in 2025; a QB Class with some serious uncertainty. Run it back with Russell Wilson one more time. I will leave this as a caveat however.

Someone like Garrett Nussmeier being available in Round 2 assuming he declares?! Wouldnt shock me if he was an option. I also wouldnt rule out someone like Drew Allar though I believe he will return to the Happy Valley.

    Intriguing.

I initially wanted him early on. Not anymore. Boy oh boy did he fade down the stretch. Yikes.

Granted, Milroe hasnt been exactly Mr. Consistent himself. However, the tools and talent are there with him. Cannot say the same for Dart anymore from where I stand.

Ben retired at 39 I believe. Didn't do anything in the Playoffs after 2017. Funny we beat KC.

Wilson is 36. His last Playoff win was in Philly back in 2020.

IMO we have a slight chance to shock the NFL and win it all this season. If it doesn't happen this season it will not happen with an older Russell Wilson. Steelers ain't winning #7 grabbing journeymen QB's. We won 6 because we had franchise QB's.

Ben's idea of taking care of himself was passing on the 4th helping of mashed potatoes. Wilson is a work out fanatic, who's probably in better shape at 36 than ben was at 26.

I don't buy that in only 1 year Russ is going to fall off so far that they have no chance. They'll have free agency and the draft to bolster the WR core and some other positions. Why so definitively saying it will NOT happen? LOL

THIS 100% - it is Wilson, or bust, for at least another season or 2.

We have sucked at QB transition, development. We BLEW IT with Rudolph. and obv. w Pickett.....

I do not think Fields is any long term solution.....for anyone.

    I'd wait until 2026.....

WIN NOW BABY - draft lots of talent for offense (WR's and RB's, it looks like) unless we go big in FA. and add to the DL and secondary positions.

yeah - we beat a nameless KC team - name me their QB, and any other noteworthy players from that roster. BTW - we BARELY snuck by them!

Ben should have retired at about 36 or 37, b/c his body had broken down. Wilson's body is not in severe disrepair. He has another yr or 2 in him. Brady won at an older age, so did Manning, at age 39.

Wilson is that kind of guy.....

Mannings passer rating "at age 39" was 67.9, with 9 tds and 17 interceptions in 9 games. They won the Super Bowl despite him, not because of him. #1 defense, #16 offense.

and we can do that w Wilson. I am not defending Old Man time - yes, Manning was showing age BADLY at that time. Do you see that w Wilson?

    come on man.....

no - he is not 27 any longer, but he does not look old and worn out to me

EDIT - Ben's passer rating in his first SB was like a 6. (being facetious)

it's not about age, is all i am saying..... it is a TEAM game, winning and losing. Not just QB vs QB

Wilson will sign. 3 for 120M. They will draft a QB in 26 to sit and learn.

Some QB starved team will possibly sign Fields to start.

    Resign Kyle Allen

this seems pretty SPOT ON to me. They might get RW for closer to $100M, but I guess we will see. Is Allen ready to move to #2, in case Fields jumps ship (which I think is highly likely)

I would prefer a MATURE and CHEAP veteran, but have not looked at who might be there to grab....

If the Steelers give RW 40 million a season they are really dumb.
    That is not happening.

He might get 25 to 30 and that's a lot for a 36 year old QB.

Until Ben's elbow crashed he didn't look like an old QB either. We can re-sign Wilson, but I hope we learned to have a backup plan for when the inevitable happens.

We're in a window now, the best QB we have is RW, that's not changing next year with a draft pick, I wouldnlt bother, class is weak. Of course it is possible with a blockbuster kind of trade that no-one could forsee right, now but there's probably a reason for that. We'd be back to square 1, if we let RW walk.

The team is solid all-round, the defense is among the best , with good young players being filtered in all the time, Wilson, Herbig, (Porter needs to shape up), Elliott, Benton, we have the pass rushers, secondary is the best we've had in years (as is long term weakspot ILB). Offense needs work but we're in better shape than we have been in for years, we've got Fautanu to come in, I still believe in 77, Frazier., Mcormick, we've got 2 good backs, 14, we've got TE's. Just need to keep improving the line and get a real #1 or #2 WR to compliment 14.

ST is absolutely lights out, best kicker in the league.

You can't waste that trying to develop a QB. Who knows how long this window is going to be open?

We're a step below the AFC elite and Detroit, and we'll see how we stack up vs Philly this weekend.

You don't start over with this team until you find out RW can't cut it anymore.

I never once remember thinking what great shape Ben looks like he's in this year. It was more along the lines of thinking that it looks like he did some working out during the off-season because he's not needing to lose as much weight as normal when training camp comes around.....lol

Based on how Wilson has played this year, I don't see any situation where we don't resign him unless he is completely unrealistic about the contract he gets. The Rooney's aren't going to pay 40 million a year.

What we draft next year will be determined by how well we do it the end of this year to include the playoffs. If we have a good performance, we may draft a very late round QB. I think that we're going to let fields move on and either acquire a QB2 from around the league or move our QB3 up to QB2. A bad end of year performance is going to result in a higher round QB pick unless it's a crappy QB class.

I can't see the value or the money in giving both Wilson and Fields a new contract. Both of them are going to want something more than a 1-year contract and we aren't going to be able to afford to pay for two quarterbacks that could be starters around the league. Fields will get picked up by somebody to be the starter.
