Looking at this field, I have to laugh at how much harder of a 2nd round game #1 Oregon has compared to #2 Georgia. Congrats on being #1! Have fun with OSU or Tennessee!

Why is Georgia #2? Didn't Texas win the SEC regular season and championship game?

Edit: Nevermind, I looked at scores first thing this morning on my phone and saw the final score from that game was Texas 19/GA 16. Just looked again and see Texas 19/GA 22. Now the bracket makes more sense. LOL

Clemson and AZ state making it in says all we know about the CFB playoff being an absolute joke. Why didn't they agree to put the 12 best teams in?

This is where I disagree. I don't think this is for the '12 best teams'. Should be for conference champs first. Then 4 at large teams. Earn your spot!

I agree somewhat. But, 4 Big 10 teams in the playoffs and only 3 SEC? That's interesting to say the least. Some of these teams have a possibility of games being over before the half, we'll see though.

Should be a simple concept though. Win your conference and you are in. Conferences are going away from conference championship games to eliminate that extra game. Independents are encouraged to join a conference.

I agree with you on Texas and Notre Dame. I think SMU/PSU will be a close game to the end, tough to pick. I'll take the Vols to rush for 200 yards on the Buckeyes(just like Michigan) and take that win.

Hell what about SMU. They lost every top 25 game they played except for Pitt.....who was put into the top 25....without playing a top 25 at the time. LoL. Let's not forget Boise Sts awesome schedule. LoL

    Taking this a step further...

Texas vs ASU, Texas will smother them with defense. Win BIG.

ND vs Georgia, ND has typically folded in big games vs SEC. I think this ND team takes GA to task and wins easily.

UT vs Oregon, I have only watched Oregon play 2 games this season. I have seen the Vols play 9 games. Oregon should dominate this game.

PSU/SMU winner vs Boise State, I don't think either PSU or SMU has witnessed what Boise State RB Ashton Jeanty brings to the Broncos offense. This could get ugly early and embarrassing for the big conference guys. Boise State by double digits.

Oregon vs Texas. Worst possible draw for both programs. Since I am a believer that defense wins close games, I will lean into Texas here. But my gut says Oregon takes this game in the closing minute. Classic game, one for the ages.

ND vs Boise State. Over the course of this year, ND's offense has become a power. As good as the Boise State run game is, and is very damn good, ND will win this game by 2 TDs.

Finals. ND vs Oregon. Who cares.

Not sure why SMU gets in after yesterdays loss. Alabama finished ahead of SMU in the last December 8th AP rankings.

This is funny. Hey why didn't you look at the victories SMU had over ranked opponents, Oh yeah that is right, they had none.
“We looked at the number of wins that Alabama had against ranked opponents. We looked at SMU’s schedule and they were undefeated in conference, their losses were to ranked teams,” committee chairman Warde Manuel said on ESPN shortly after the announcement.

Another win for the SMU Boosters. :)

Booster Money is how they were able to buy their way into the ACC.
To do so, the Mustangs made an offer to the ACC that the conference really couldn't refuse: It would forgo television revenue for the first nine years in the conference in order to join the ACC.

    SMU and ACC television revenue
Instead, SMU was comfortable raising that money themselves. As part of that television money, the Mustangs are expected to be forgoing around $24 million a year. The ACC's 2023-24's television revenue paid an average of $44.8 million per school.

I guess I don't have much faith in James Franklin winning a big game. Remember OSU
has as many 5 star players as TX. and Georgia.Someone goes down they just stick another
5 star player in. Will Day be fired if OSU chokes against Tenn? Will Franklin be fired if he loses to SMU? Both should be on the hot seat.

I'm not sure, and I would have to look at the whole thing like the committee should have,,but I wouldn't have put in teams that played nobody in the top 25, and I definitely wouldn't have put in teams that lost to every top 25 team they played.
I mean the way they put teams in.....every team should get out of their conference, and just make up their own schedule .....since it appears it doesn't matter who you played. Arkansas sucks.....Yet we have a better record against top 25 teams than some of the teams that got in, and we destroyed team that weren't in the top 25, and I think we suck, and shouldn't even get a terrible bowl game........so that should tell You what I think about these teams that absolutely beat nobody, and yet are in the final playoffs. It should be the best teams.....not a certain amount out of any, and every conference.

Well, I think the one thing they did right is guarantee a spot for each major conference champion and for the top ranked team from the non major conferences. I think that’s really the point of having a 12 team playoff. Otherwise 8 would be plenty. I don’t like that the top 4 conference champs are guaranteed byes though. I also don’t like seeds 5-8 getting home games. Use some of the lesser bowl games on neutral sites for the first round so that nobody gets a home field advantage. There are too many bowl games between 6-6 teams. Use 4 of those games for the tournament.

What I would change is make it more like the basketball tournament. Keep the automatic bids for the top conference champs and the top “group of 5” conference champ, but seed them 1-12 based on quality. If you end up with the top 8 seeds being teams from two conferences and the last 4 being champs of other conferences, so be it.

So, question about bowl games. Since the first round playoff games 12/20 and 12/21 are not bowl games, does that mean that the losers week 1 are not going to play in a bowl this year since the bowl invites are all sent/accepted at this point?

I'm sure the schools/teams would rather be in the playoff. But for fans, that means no bowl game for their team to watch. And what about money for going to bowl? Those teams will miss out on that bowl revenue. The road teams in the first round are kinda getting hosed from a revenue standpoint, no?
