Let’s call a spade a spade the defense has not played well the last two games. They did however get big turnovers in both which helps to disguise some of the flaws.

They have relied heavily on turnovers this season, especially the last game. Remember, they also forced three crucial turnovers against the Ravens.

Cinci had their way early on, on Sunday, that is for sure.

for the first time in a few years, the OFFENSE showed up with some PUNCH! ONE PUNT all day long.

but - we do need to credit this DEFENSE for creating some turnovers - they got after Burrows hard. Even when he made some plays, he was getting bruised and battered in the pocket!

I’m trying to Use the particular situation of this game. The score, how our offense was playing, maintaining a lead, key defensive plays at key moments of the game.
If you see a differently, that’s fine. I have no problem with that.

Harbaugh has Tomlin in his head so yeah the Steelers do own the Ravens. I thought we were talking about wins and losses and not accumulative points? Xmas is coming and this team can beat the Chiefs. They are struggling.. What a great Xmas present

I see it correctly. The Bengals had a very real shot to win the game when they scored that touchdown, therefore it is not accurate to call it a garbage touchdown.

How do you figure they had a very real chance to win the game? They had to successfully recover an onside kick. That’s only happened once the entire NFL this entire season.

Plus, I said the Steelers defense played very good. I didn’t say lights out. I didn’t say excellent. I didn’t say all-time great.

I said very real, not very good. No, they did not need to recover the onside kick. If the corner had simply done his job and contained Fields on third down, the Bengals would have gotten the ball back with over a minute remaining. They had just scored in 1:14 without a time-out, so that was plenty of time the way the Steelers'' defense had fallen apart.

No, the Steelers' defense did not play well. It was not good. They gave up 31 points and came way too close to blowing a 17-point lead in the fourth quarter. The offense bailed them out. They weren't good the week before, either. They have the ability to be good, but they aren't playing that way right now.

i think he means that if Van J and Russ don't connect on that critical play, we punt and then KATY BAR THE DOORS.

Burrow would dice us up - i had disgust over it too.....

we won in a shoot out. Since Ben left, that has not been possible.

    it IS today!!!

It wasn't just that play. The Bengals had a chance even after that happened because the defense didn't just let them drive 64 yards for a touchdown, it let them do it in only 1:14 with no time-outs.

There are a lot of top NFL coaches, GMs, owners, and scouts in the Pittsburgh area. I mean, there are so many per capita that it should be studied.

of course they had a chance. I mean both teams get paid to play. Your expectations seem very unrealistic. And hypercritical. That’s fine if that’s the way you feel. I don’t feel that way. I’m enjoying that we are 9–3 and are exceeding expectations.
I’m not really sure why you feel the need to debate this with me? I didn’t call you out.

I think some of this comes from the bend don't break defense philosophy. Make them work their way down the field with as many plays as possible and hope they make a big play. Sometimes it works, Bengals game, sometimes it doesn't, Dallas game. I get that the total points scored vary greatly in those two games. Just think they need to mix up the pressures a bit more throughout the game.

I don’t have much interest in living in that world of IFS and butts.
We won the game that’s the objective. Would I like to win more convincingly each and every week? Sure who wouldn’t. There’s not a whole lot of that going on across the NFL.

I debate points that interest me with anybody. That should be abundantly clear, so it makes little sense for you to take it personally.

I'm not being hypercritical at all, but it is utterly ridiculous to say the defense was good when they gave up 31 points and nearly blew a 17-point fourth-quarter lead. All they had to do on the Bengals' final drive was slow them down. Make them take even two minutes to score and their only shot is an on-side kick. They failed, leaving enough time for the Bengals to get the ball back with over a minute remaining if the Steelers couldn't get a first down. The defense didn't hold that lead. The offense bailed them out, first with the big third-down conversion pass to Jefferson and later with the third-down run by Fields.

I don't care about the margin of victory. I do care that the defense has not played well in the last two games. They need to tighten that up or they are going to be swept by a bad Browns team, a defeat that would put the division title and perhaps even the playoffs in jeopardy.

    agreed -
what some don't see are trends.

We have seen Tomlin's defense's falter down the stretch. He says he has plays left in the bag. he better.

our schemes are well known, at this time. and our personnel.

he loses playoff games, in part - due to his lack of great coaching. better coaches......have out coached him.

i hope for something different this season

Keeping it simple and doing the same things over and over isn't going to work. They are making it too easy on opposing offenses. It is too easy to locate Watt. It is too easy to pass block when they are using the same four-man pressures most of the time. I'm hoping they change things up Sunday.

I know you didn't - which was the tease. that is what matters. winning matters - in big games, in the PLAYOFFS and beyond.

this is not Recreational League sports where we just want to watch our children play and have fun

i am enjoying the season, the ride - have for ~50 years, just want to win, like we used to do.....

You should go back and read some of your post in the game day threads. You rarely give praise without a backhanded negative comment.

You are hypocritical whether you want to see that or not.
I’m not on this message board to win debates. If I think you’re saying something stupid I’m gonna point it out, but I don’t need to have a 15 page debate about it. Not that important to me at all. And again I didn’t quote you So I don’t really know why you wanna keep pushing this with me? We disagree who gives a ****.
