Hearing here locally in the Burgh that the Steelers are interested in bringing in Bruce Gradkowski as a back up. I 'm not sure how this would be an upgrade over what we have now. But, I would take him over Leftwich.

Hey just so you know there's another thread about this so you might not get too many responses. I think it's the one by BobbyBiz about being an idiot or something. There's already been a pretty big discussion about it.

Gradkowski cheaper- wont get hurt in the 1 preseason game then hurt again in the 1 regular season game he plays, plus hell, who enjoys watching Leftwich try and get passes off?

I'm surprised more people aren't talking about this. I'd be really excited about this signing. I think Bruce would be a great longterm replacement for Batch.

Does nobody remember when he smoked us with the Raiders? 20 of 33, 308 yards, 3 TDs including a 4th quarter game winning throw?

Go to NFL.com and look at his game splits. That was literally his career game. He's actually been pretty mediocre for the remainder of his career other than that brief stretch of 3-4 games with Oakland.

Ugh.... need to see the dollars (especially guaranteed dollars) to know if this is a disaster or just a blah signing. He's a warm body to have as a backup QB, but there were better ones out there.

I know I will be in the minority here, but I actually like this signing. He will be prepared every week, and I think he actually can run the system well. The thing I personally look for in a backup is the ability to be prepared, the ability to run the system so the whole gameplan doesn't need to be changed, and the willingness to compete. Bruce has flaws, if he didn't he would be a starter, but the guy is a competitor.

I'm fine with it. Seeing the kind of dollars more qualified backups were demanding like Moore, this was a logical move. I'm not going to get to caught up in his numbers while playing for the likes of the Raiders and Bengals. He's a guy that can come in and win some games if need be, that's all you can ask for. If we had Matt Moore and Ben went down for the year, your season is over anyway.

I think this overlooks Lefty's long wind up and the type of offense we are running.

:applaud: I remember a few years ago when the Raiders came to Heinz Field and Gradkowski beat us playing a great game. That is what I remember about him and was thinking at the time what a great QB he is turning into. I guess coming home to play pumped him up big time. I think he will do just fine here, he is a tough kid, he is in his home turf and understands his role as a back up.

I have no problem with this signing. Some saying he sucks or Lefty is better...bull. At this point Lefty isnt even better than Batch. And as far as he sucks...most backups are not going to be stars...thats why they are backups. He's proven he can win some games and manage a team/etc and thats all you need right now. I hope they fill the 3rd QB spot with a rookie...if they do that I think the QB situation will be miles better than it has been lately.

yeah we SHOULD draft a QB and groom him, but they want to keep Batch, and he would be just cut anyways....

    I hate this signing. awful.

    Agreed!

Not sure how much practice time is given to the backup QB's in Pittsburgh but they need to change the mentality and give them more work. Get Gradkowski involved more in practice not just mentally but physically in game plays - strategy working with the receiving core etc.on a weekly base.. Ben hasn't played a full season for several years now due to his injuries. Bruce needs to be able to step in.. thats right i said Bruce get him polished and prepared and hopefully Ben will mentor this man..I don't want to limp through another losing season with an incompetent backup. Its time we polish a complete backup ready to take helm and drive the team through the playoffs if needed. Its not whether Ben will be injured but rather when.
