Not trying to be a sh!t starter but how do the fans feel about The Rooneys

Where I am going with this is I was listening to Jim Miller talk about how he went backwards when talking about the facilities vs Michigan State.

Any of the locals or Pitt Alumni agree with this? Maybe Jim was bitter.

The Steelers I dont believe have a below average conditioning program or any worse than the Bengals but being from Ct I an only go by the little I read on the net.

The team is always competitive and I believe are in the upper 30% with respect to the cap.

I guess I would think a franchise like the the Steelers with their trademark value would naturally have a facility like the Cowboys so I was in disbelief that their facility is supposedly below Div I collegiate teams.

    Agree? Disagree?

I would believe the local fans vs some main media outlet

Conditioning's not all about having nice equipment and a facility. There's a lot of factors that go into it. I would say that if you really want to compare conditioning, you should look at the conditioning related injuries across the league. And even then, it's not really an easy comparison because the situation surrounding each individual has so many factors. Different individuals handle things differently.

What might result in a pulled hamstring for one person could do absolutely nothing to another. I've seen multiple players this year running to a play and pull up injured without ever having been touched. None of those players have been on the Steelers. So does that mean our conditioning is actually better than other teams? Maybe, but maybe not.

I will say that I have heard and read plenty of comments about the Rooney's being cheap. I have never heard anybody say that the Rooney's let the money flow. So I guess that the consensus is probably that the rooneys are cheap.....lol

A facility is a component of how other perceive the Organization. Unfortunately, this has been a historical area in which the Rooney's have struggled with.. though in recent years they have done much better. That said, how a facility is in terms of being cutting edge vs just enough doesn't decide if a team wins Championships. Players and Coaches do.

Again, make the facilities these people go to everyday of good quality but of course not below standards. For example, the Dallas Cowboys, Minnesota Vikings, Houston Texans and even Miami Dolphins all have facilities that blow Pittsburgh's out of the water. Now, in that same vein, Pittsburgh included, which team has been a more consistent winner within the past five seasons?!

That is a much more demanding question that NFL Free Agents often ask; living expenses, neighborhoods and state government based applications such as taxes notwithstanding.

Well if you compare them to the other teams in the Burgh they are great. Said with respect to the floundering Penguins.

If I had to own a team it would be the sport I have no interest in, NBA. Only 5 starters;)

Not to be rude, but who is Jim Miller?

edit: OK I looked him up. He was drafted in the sixth round by the Steelers out of Michigan State and was on the roster or practice squad of nine NFL teams, plus the Frankfort Galaxy of the WLAF. Played roster pong for years. Had a moment or two with Da Bears. So I guess he WOULD be in a position to comment on the quality of the Steelers facilities…….thirty years ago.

I believe the facility's are adequate, they may need freshened up. Oh and the Rooney's are not cheap,
they have always paid their roster up to the cap number. They will continue to pay superstar players their worth.
They should not over pay like Jax, NY Giants, and so on, on unproven talent. Another thing you
see from Steelers are they usually do not sign aging players to third contracts. They will have a decision to make this off season at the QB position, I hope they do not over
    pay for something.

The only Team that I read about being cheap were the Bengals ownership in old SI articles where former Bengals players saying they literally had to pay for coffee and the whole Kraft thing where the stadium ran out of bottled water and were charging for tap water.

When I see the Steeler Ownership I remember Mr Rooney looking all humble receiving that Lombardi in the locker room. That stuck with me forever but has nothing to do with how much they invest back into the team.

When I think of a Pro Team I naturally always think that they are years ahead in whatever technology that helps conditioning, endurance, injury preventative cutting edge type stuff that is backed by science.

To be Honest...I never imagined college athletics having more money to support their university but that is more a fault of mine I guess not keeping up with the times.

Great argument AQL. Daniel Schneider tried to put an all star team and basically tried to buy his legacy. Major Fail....this even happens in the Premier League to an extent with rich Saudis.

I hear ya. I did say he could be bitter but the point I was surprised about is his claim that the Steelers have an inferior facility to a college.

I noticed this with the WRs. Point taken. YOu can actually make an argument that this is a smart business practice vs "cheap"

The facilities fit the town. Pittsburgh isn’t a yuppie community, it’s a blue collar area with older infrastructure. Dallas is creating the illusion of a great team while they haven’t won anything in almost 30 years. One of the earlier comments was dead on, colleges build impressive facilities to make players feel like they will be celebrities. Fat cat donors give millions to build these places and yes, they get to have their own key for access. The pros are a completely different story. Most pros have personal gyms in their homes anyway, as well as their own trainers.

Dude, you are living in the past too! Gorilla? 3m? Alien? Flex tape is where it's at! That stuff can keep a boat filled with holes afloat. I know, because I have seen the commercials.

Facilities do make a difference but there is a caveat.
    Winning also makes a difference.

I remember back in 49ers glory years... walking in to interview some players.
    That place exuded 'Championships'
The Steelers does as well but it is a bit older. It is still a top-notch place though.
I kind of laugh at Jerry-World. That is a huge piece of crap. I haven't been to the new LA Stadium.

Through all that riffing, all I am saying is that when you come into the facility and see those trophies, the color scheme, the images.. there's a lot to live up to as a player.
Could they do some things better? Probably.
When the "The Chief" Art Rooney walked through those halls it was a bit different. He loved his players and coaches.
Not quite the same these days, and the game has changed, so maybe par for the course.
I had been to every stadium multiple times over up to 2009... The Steelers place was always a good one.

It's pretty hard to find good numbers to make a fair comparison. But I did a little bit of internet sleuthing and here's what I came up with.

Texas had the highest revenue college football program in 2023 with 182 million.

In 2023, the low end NFL teams had about 500 million in revenue with about half the league being 500 million to 600 million.

If I read things correctly, college teams can share up to $20 million of their annual revenue with the players. That makes player salaries 20 million or less for college.

The salary cap for 2023 was $224.8 million in the NFL and most teams are someplace pretty close to that cap every year.

Colleges don't get taxed because they are non-profit (lol.....riggghhhhttt). NFL teams frequently have favorable taxing schemes, but they do get taxed.

There's a lot of coaching salary money, but that's really difficult to research because a lot of it is so secretive. So I'm just going to assume that total coaching salary for a team is similar between the NFL and college.

Colleges have donors that can result in tens of millions of dollars of money donated to the sporting programs. The NFL doesn't get anything like that.

When you factor in revenue, expenditures, donations, and taxing, I would bet that the bottom line that's left over puts quite a few colleges on par with at least the bottom half of the NFL teams as far as money in the piggy bank at the end of the day.

NFL profit goes into owners pockets. Where does all that money from college sports go? I guess into facilities and paying for programs and teachers that nobody cares about. And that is probably how we end up with programs like bicycle design and fabrication, puppet arts, and amusement park engineering. And yes, those are all real programs at colleges.

Actually that flex stuff is amazing. Have used on two friends roofs cause they could not afford repairs and it was a pretty decent size patch we had to make. Still holding 2 years in.

Never knew NCAA players got paid. Funny, non-profit as I see their stadiums filled with 70-80 thousand fans for big schools.
