I don't have the all 22 so I cant tell if defenses are showing a stacked box but what about either one of the Heywards being a lead blocker and Warren follows between the tackles?

This would be in anything a yard or less and if successful...go into this formation and through to a TE once teams start seeing film of this.

    Thoughts?

No absolutely not. Cam has never played fullback and connor has been terrible while on the field this year. He got blown up a couple times in the Browns game. He isn’t big enough to be a fullback. Frieirmuth and Connor Heyward have bene a liability on offense when it comes to blocking.

Until we utilize the middle of the field to back the Linebackers up it’s going to be difficult

I know it can't be our RBs....because I have watched all 3 get blown up in the backfield on short yardage situations. Unless all 3 suck. LoL

I also have not watched the all 22 or really documented play calls, but I generally dislike our short yardage play calls. They're slow to develop and we so often throw deep or pitch it out.

Their short yardage plays are too predictable how about a quick pitch out wide to Warren sometimes, instead trying to run up the middle all the time .

Thanks for everyones feedback. That went over like a fart in church.
I dont have the stats to prove it but watching Bruce Arians call plays it always seemed like
he also gave away the play by the package and formation and was too stubborn to let the QB change it or at least it appeared that way.
    In Arthur Smith we trust.

More roll outs by Wilson then throw a quick pass to Muth or Washington.

handing off to back starting 4 yards behind line of scrimmage is not getting it done.

going back to Heath now to Muth - several times we've handed the ball off to the TE and it's worked. won't work every time but run it more than once a year.

Short yardage running starts and depends heavily on the center and the two guards

Two of those are rookies not all pros

And they are probably hitting the rookie wall

I see good things coming from them

With these extra days off I hope they work on these things, and no more excuses for not using Mike Williams going forward we just need 2-3 contested catches a game down field.

It seemed like at the beginning of the year they ran some QB sneaks and it worked. Maybe it was a dream

I know the best way to be successful on 4th and one is to just punt the ball. Or if it is 4th and one and we're in FG range then just kick the FG. Football is simple if the coaching staff just takes what's given them and don't out think themselves.

In the CLE game, as I commented during the game, we should have punted every time and played the field position game. ****ty conditions and, well, it's the Clowns. Why is getting one yard when we need it so hard? No idea. Seems easy for other teams.

I kinda hate the FB idea not gonna lie... But I will say I think Warren is probably our best chance at getting the first down. We need someone that explodes and hits the line going full speed and I think he's the best at that. Though, I would like to see something a bit more creative than what we've been running. Last year we had a few cheeky 2RB formations that got Warren the ball on the edge and other stuff.... Idk. Definitely haven't been good in short yardage situations, but I also think we use Najee too much in those situations. Loved seeing Warren get some run in RZ and short yardage this past Thursday. Hope to see more.

We don't have a real fullback and the H back with Heyward is not working at all. The Patterson, Heyward and Pruit in the backfield is totally stupid, Quit trying to be too cute with the formations and personnel and put your best players in. Also agree we are overusing Harris.

Whether we want to admit it or not, I think that because we are doing well record wise, many of us have forgotten that this is still a rebuild year. We do not yet have a complete team.

The short yardage problem has been a problem for a long time. The difference is that we are now going for it on 4th a lot more now, so it is more visible.

On a short yardage play, the eagles do the same play almost every time and they get it because it is a good play and it is well practiced. They are also starting from the los. When we do a short yardage play, we start from the backfield. So our short yardage play is frequently actually 4 or 5 yards. It is also predictable. RB getting the ball, starting from 5 yards back and trying to run up the middle. Defenders stack the box and have edge rushers try and get around to get a hand on the RB.

We need more plays that start from the los, and more plays that do some sort of a move to the outside.... Pass, pitch, run.... We also need to involve more people than just the RBs. More variety so we are not as predictable until we find that magical play that is successful most of the time no matter what the defense does.

We are really too predictable and continue to do the same things over and over. Other teams are not stupid and could also what we do all the time.
