If he doesn't take a pay cut there is a report he will be released. He would look good in black and gold and hurt the division rival Ravens, the Steelers are around 5 million under the cap after releasing James Harrison. I would take Boldin for 2 years we need a physical receiver instead of these skinny guys who can't fight for the ball and fumble too much like Brown and Sanders.

I was very envious watching Boldin pull in those passes during the playoffs but there are big guys in the draft we can look to instead, we're not exactly cap friendly either.

Boldin is a good player, and he did come up big this year, but Steelers don't need him IMO

Boldin said he would be a raven if he played this year. That means if he played here he would not be good. Leave him there in ratland

Boldin would be a great asset for Ben. The Steelers have a great franchise QB in Ben but don't have a star WR or running back to help him out. I really don't get it, would think the office would do all it could to support him with some star players on offense....I think of other successful teams now or in the past, Brady has Welker, Falcco has or had Boldin, Torrey Smith and Ray Rice, Manning has Curz, Warrner had Fitzgerald, Montana had Rice, Bradshaw had Swan, Stallworth, and Harris and at one time Ben had Ward, Holmes, Burress and Bettis . What does Ben have now as far as someone he can really go to when the chips are down. We need some real stars on offensive besides Ben, true we have some good mediocre players but what Ben really needs is some players who are above average and can really preform. Seems to me our franchise QB is getting short changed.

Ben's stats were far less impressive when he had Burress, Ward and Bettis, though. If you're a stats kind of person. Remember that was also when, for all the heroic narrative it had, we only just made the play-offs. I also wouldn't even begin to put Burress in the same line as Swann or Stallworth.

What was surprising last season was that we basically went with 4 receiverd (Wallace, Brown, Sanders and Cotchery), and around 19 running backs, but it was our running game that absolutely struggled throughout, and they didn't seem to be used as flexibly as they might to give Ben those extra outlets to pass to. With a solid corps of receivers I believe Ben will thrive - not necessarily superstars, just guys who can play sandlot, improvise, and stretch the field if necessary.

Was this a little inside trading by the Harbaugh bros? A 6 pick, I would have thought they could have shopped Boldin around for at least a 4 pick, next up ED Reed, he will be a patriot soon, and Kugler will be on the bubble as well, they have to find cap space somewhere to fit flaccos 120 million 6 year deal into their payroll, but getting rid of their nucleus to pay a QB doesnt look good for their 2013 starting roster......

Why would the Harbaughs want to help each other?

Apparently no other teams were offering more than a 7th so that is why he went to the Niners.

Maybe, no one knows for certain, trading an AFC player to an NFC team seems the best option for the rats, doesnt it???

Harbaugh has input on trades, but the final decision rests with Ozzie Newsome. I just don't see Newsome taking a deal for less just to help out another coach in the league. Everything I've heard suggests the 49'ers were the only team to offer a 6th and most teams offered a 7th, if anything.

I wonder if any player has ever played in the Super Bowl for 3 different teams?

EDIT: I thought Preston Pearson had and just looked it up and, indeed, he played in SB's with Baltimore, Pittsburgh, and Dallas.

Matt Millen has three rings from three different organizations (Oak, SF, Wash).

Best option? Maybe. Harbaugh helping Harbaugh? Unlikely in my opinion. I just think some people like to read into things too much or they want there to be some kind of controversy.

The 49ers having more picks than they know what to do with probably helped things a little bit...
