Lets assume that Russ continues to play well and the Steelers win a playoff game. What contract does that warrant for Russ? 30mil per year for maybe 2 years? Is that too low given current QB contracts? Is keeping Russ worth losing Justin? Can you keep both?

IMO if that were to happen, you 100% go with Russ and hope he can stay healthy for a couple more years. Would love to have Justin wait in the wings, just not sure if he'd do it. But then again...who is giving Justin a starting gig?

What do you all think? Is the last few years of abysmal offense clouding my judgement?

Russ if he continues could be a good option for maybe 2 years while we hope to draft a new starter

Fields has proven his is not a long term answer as QB1 on this team or any other but I’d keep him as a backup just like Mason was

Fields in the Charlie Batch role is palatable.
I'd be up front, "I'm drafting a Franchise QB, you're my #2 guy."

The problem sort of with Russ is he will win enough games that we will not be drafting high enough for one of the allegedly good quarterbacks

And allegedly is the significant word

So you just let Russ walk at years end after a playoff win? I know that not a high bar...but 2016 and all.

I am expecting Fields to be involved in games with special packages where they want his size and running ability in short yardage and goal to go.

There have been multiple times in the 2 games Russell Wilson has played where I said "If that is Justin Fields he tucks the ball and runs into the Endzone." After the bye I think Arthur Smith is going to start giving Fields the ball, down near the goal line.

Fields could definitely start for several teams. The Titans, Raiders, Giants, Panthers the Browns. I doubt if Rodgers will be back next year so he could start for Jets.

    Oh no, no, no, no....
Wilson I sign. Knowing he's only good for maybe 2 years.
My drafted QB is #3 for the time being.

In that scenario putting Fields in at the goal line puts a great big red glad up telling everyone what you are doing

The success rate for that would be low

It’s like when people suggest we use one TE for run plays and another for Pass plays

I could give a like and an agree but really can’t because MT will probably shut that thought down. I think they should put Fields in at least half the time inside the 10 yard line. Defensive players would be tripping over themselves trying to line up for that switch.

There is no guarantee that Fields would be running the ball. There are so many more options than what Wilson can do.

if that scenario were to take place, would other teams who may feel they have things in place make a bid for Russ? I've said for some time the pay ceiling for Russ should be somewhere between that Baker and Kirk got last year, a big difference in some ways, but both manageable and you could work out of it in 2 years. Justin is someone I would love to keep, but it really depends on how he feels as a number 2 and how the rest of the league sees him. We have seen that he can win games, we also have seen that his passing game needs work. Is that even fixable? If they believe that it is and he sees a future, he is still young enough to work toward that payday. Unless we stink it up a certain year it is doubtful we even get in a top 10 draft position, that at least you could move if you thought you had your guy.

If Wilson.1 has success here and is invited to stay a few more and the salary offer is fair I could imagine him staying here

Sometimes if you gave a good situation the grass isn’t always greener on the other side of the fence

If nothing else the other team would probably waste one of their timeouts to try and put a new defense on the field. Then put Wilson back in and throw the ball against the run defense they just put in.

Kyle Allen;) Guys been perfect this season.

Seriously, the last 9 games will determine a lot going forward. Good or bad.

I like the idea too. And just because he is in does not mean he will run. It would confuse the D.

I just can't see Tomlin agreeing to it.?????????

Really? I don't hate the 33 per year number necessarily, but all guaranteed for 3 years? How about 60mil and having an out year 3?

Not a great contract structure guy, but he's too old for me to give 3 years of guaranteed salary.

Unfortunately, this class is nowhere near last draft class in terms of QB talent.

Yeah with Fields in on first and goal, they could just simply hand the ball off, fake the hand off and run a jet sweep with Austin or use a shovel pass to Freiermuth. All 11 guys on defense will be expecting Fields to run so any variation away from that should be successful.

Fields running the old Option play at the goalline, would be like the Eagles running the Tush-Push, everyone knows what the play is, but no one can stop it.

Is Justin Fields going to do a quick QB sneak up the middle, is he going to run wide with it, is he going to pitch it to Najee, or is he going to give a last minute short pass to the endzone. Yeah, you may know what the play is, but you have no idea where the ball is going. That is what you call using a Player's Skill Set.
