    Happy Birthday Rocky!

Quick question: Any Chance you can come and coach up some of the soft players that are on the field these days?

Happy Birthday Rocky! You are a true American Hero and Patriot! Your Steelers accomplishments are among the least of the things we have to thank you for!

Amen to that but let's not forget his Steeler accomplishments not because they helped bring us rings but because of what it means to millions.

He was talented enough to get drafted but went to vietnam where an explosion not only cost him his dream of playing in the NFL but he was told he'd never run again and be lucky just to walk. His hard work, dedication suffering and God's Grace got him back on the field in the NFL and shined on the biggest stage. His after football career and lectures, motivation speeches has inspired millions to not only continue on thru adversity but overcome and succeed.

YES, what he's done outside football far outweighs what he's done on the field but its what he did on the field that gave him that stage to allow him to bless millions with his story. I give Glory to God for raising up an unlikely hero to millions who needed him.

Happy Birthday indeed to a true gentleman and hero in so many respects. Two of the greatest moments in my life - shaking hands with Bill Mazeroski and then Rocky Bleier. Each one very humble - built about the same with gigantic hands and tremendous smiles and heroes to anyone affiliated with the City of Pittsburgh. I met Rocky in 1980 just after one of their practices broke in So Cal as they were prepping for the SB with the Rams. Fans were flocking all around the name "stars" for autographs. I was standing watching the team pass by and out of nowhere - Rocky who was walking alone turns to me and walks straight over with the biggest smile and extends his hand to me and said it was a pleasure meeting me (a nobody). I was so flabbergasted that I forgot to get his autograph but fortunately my wife snapped the picture below. A true Kodak moment for sure.

Great Story. Here's a moment of missed opportunity that I had back in 1975 or so.
The Steelers were having an offseason benefit right around April at the outdoors hunt/fish club in S. Fayette. The ones that I can barely remember being there were Lambert, Noll, Rocky, Russell, Blount, Swann, Gerela and I think Jack Ham. Not entirely certain on the list though since my priorities were all backwards. Long story short. My dad used to take me fishing over there all the time but this particular time was going to be extra special cause of all the Steelers. But the whole way over I kept telling my dad how I couldn't wait to bait the hook and catch some trout. So my dad kept fishing with me but anxiously wanting to go to the club to see the players. I told him to go ahead while I fish. Needless to say he made sure I was ok with it and went on to see all the players. I went up there about 4 hours later while it was winding down and then he started pointing out all the players as I was asking why they were leaving. I do remember meeting Rocky, Russell and Chaz though. That was super cool.
