LoL. God forbid this is a different thread about the same person, but talking about something else. I mean I guess for now on....any talk about Tomlin should only be in one thread, any talk about TJ Watt should only be in one thread, any talk about each player should only be in one thread. So someone should just make a thread for each player, and coach, and if You have anything to say about them.....put it in one of them. LoL

Do what You are saying is.....I don't want to see that there are actually targets running wide open. If I don't look maybe it will go away. LoL. I bet you pull your blankets over your head when You hear something scary. LoL

LoL. The D is tied for 1st place in points allowed, and the Offense is 24th in points scored, and some teams haven't even played the 5 games we have, and You are disappointed in the D. LoL

Wouldn't you just once like to win by the offense, and not have to say.....like every freaking game.....please D.....stop them on this last drive. Remember the days when it didn't matter if the other team scored on the last drive....because we had a comfortable lead???..... but hey.....the D is number 1 in the most important stat in football.....points scored......yet the offense is number 24 , or lower now....in points scored, but hey....keep blaming the D. :applaud::thumbs_up:

They aren’t in first in pts allowed anymore. Regardless look at who they played … that matters. We didn’t play any offensive juggernauts yet. Yes the offense needs to get better but we anticipated this with the offense. The expectation is for the defense to carry this team and they literally lost the last two games.

Yes we are still number 1, or tied for number 1 in points allowed. The teams you see with less, haven't played 5 games yet.
Now flip that. What Defensive juggernauts did we play??? Yet we are still bottom of the league in scoring.

I hear you but to me it is about what we invested and what the expectation is. Our identity has always been about Defense. I happen to love defensive football. I pay attention to that side of the ball more admittedly and based on that I can tell you my personal experience watching these last two games has been miserable. The expectation was very high going into this season for the defense. I honestly don’t care about any ranking. The eye test is enough for me. but if were going by rankings, I can gaurantee we aren’t rated high in pressure rate, blitz rate, sacks or 3rd down defense. You have to admit yourself this defense has been disappointing these last two games. All of the long drives given up. Are you happy with the vanilla extra conservative defense against the pass? Are you happy we aren’t blitzing or we lack creativity in deception with our coverages and blitzes and we rely on the four man rush too much? Are you happy we are playing two high soft shell zone coverage and giving up a ton of chunk plays underneath? Isn’t it obvious we are basically playing very conservative on the back end and its all about keep the pass infant of them and tackling the reception? It’s death by a thousand cuts. Are you happy with Patrick Queen? Are you happy with the conservative approach they are taking with the ILB’s against both the run and the pass?

We play conservative on offense too. We play not to lose and not to turn the ball over. This is Tomlins mantra on both sides of the ball. It is super frustrating and boring to watch. Our whole game plan on defense is getting pressure from the front four. When that breaks down the whole game plan goes to crap. It’s like Tomlin lacks any creativity outside of that.

You mention playing Russ over Fields to mix it up and add some spark. The only reason I am for this is I believe perhaps Tomlin may trust Russ more and as a result he may open the play book up more and not play so darn conservatively on offense. I wish he would cut Fields loose to see what we actually have but tomlin is as stubborn as they come. I always used to be a big defender of Tomlin but these last few years have been very frustrating. It doesn’t matter who the coordinators are or who we put at ILB or at QB. It just doesn’t. It is always the same results. He just plays to darn conservatively. It’s not fun football to watch. It is mediocre football results wise and we never get the very best out of our players as a result. In todays NFL when games can often be decided by one play or one penalty this style of football is extra frustrating. wouldn’t it be nice to get up two scores against teams we know we should get up two scores on so we don’t have to worry about the game coming down to the last drive, or last play or some arbitrary penalty?

By the way Denver, LA Chargers and Atlanta all have pretty good defenses.

1st....I hear you....I'm also a Defensive guy, and there is no more important thing in Defense than points scored, and We are number one in that.
2nd....Being a Defensive guy.....I'm getting upset that the only games we have won have been because of the Defense, and as soon as they slip a bit....somehow its all their fault.....yet we have only won games, and been in games because of the Defense, and Kicker......You can win a lot of games with the number 1 team in stopping points, but You can't with the bottom half of the league in offense scoring.
3rd.. We opened up the game for Fields last week, and got very little as a result. They threw on a majority of 1st downs added to this. I like the kid, but He isn't seeing the field very well.

No doubt they need more out of the offense. I don’t want to offer up excuses for the offense but I am in that the offensive line just has not been able to get rolling with all the injuries and musical chairs. I still believe they need to upgrade the coaching in that area. Guys who are self starters like a Freazier are going to do well regardless of the coaching. Jones needs help. To me somebody that raw with alot of potential who has not developed from year one to year two but in fact has regressed needs hand holding and it appears some accountability. If the guy is doing the same mistakes over and over again its on both him and the coaches for allowing him to continue to make the mistakes.

You are right we did throw on first down more but that is perhaps because we can not run the darn ball. I can remember Rooney complaining about our run game two or three years ago. I don’t understand why it takes us so long as an organization to fix our issues. I know you are saying Fields isn’t seeing the field, but I believe the guy is playing well especially within the confines of the system and with a bad offensive line , lack of wide receivers and no run game. There were four drops from his receivers last week alone. Anyone of those goes for a catch we at minimum are in field goal range and that is 3 points right there.

The concern I have is we are on our third OC in how many years. We are on our fifth and sixth QB’s and we upgraded the offensive line in a major way, yet the problems are the same. The problems are always the same. At a certain point we need to acknowledge the common denominator here. It is starting to get blatantly obvious. The conservative game play on both sides of the ball and playing in a our fears and playing not to lose and not to turn the ball over is getting very old. At the end of the day even with Russ I don’t think it is going to change much.

There were two instances where he missed wide open receivers (Austin and Friermuth), but there were four drops on that film. Roethlisberger missed open receivers as well. I think for the most part Fields is seeing the field pretty well. Is he perfect certainly not, but I really don’t think he is the issue. This offense is not built right now to score alot of points. IF we score 17 -20 points we are expected to win games. Were built on defense to hold teams under 17 points. I think the offensive line will get better as the season goes on simply through attrition and playing together. Getting Warren back will certainly help. We still need that wr-2 that is reliable and can get open and not drop the ball.

I can’t read everything, but the bit that I am hearing is that both sides blame either the offense and the defense.

Both are true. The lowest paid offense isn’t good enough and the highest paid offense isn’t good enough yet either.

What is also true is that the entire coaching staff is also not up to the task or even close to the top tier in the league. WE ARE WHAT OUR RECORD SAYS WE ARE - every year - near .500 and clearly mediocre.

That’s it, we must face it, period.

Until there are wholesale massive changes believe what your eyes and the stats have told you for more than half a decade now.

One of those turnovers was an interception at our own 2 yard line with 0:52 left before the half.

The second interception in the 4th quarter lead to a Touchdown.

Again if He's not the issue. It's really simple to find out. Neither Qb is signed here pass this year. Would be stupid , and pretty irresponsible of our Team not to find out.
I'm a Tomlin fan, but if there was a such a thing as we had a backup HC, and could make Tomlin sit for a few weeks, and we could see how the team responds. I'd be behind that 100%.

I think you will be getting your wish here regarding Wilson sooner rather than later. If not this game I think Wilson will definitely start the next game unless Fields really tears it up.

And if He doesn't. Than I was wrong(won't be the 1st, or the last), and we get 100% behind the kid.
