I've been kicking this around for a bit now and what I'm seeing is the result of this team not being able to self-asses worth a damn.

They're going into these games looking like they are not planning on attacking perceived weaknesses of the other team and instead trying to cram what they think they do best at the other team.

I'm seeing this on offense and defense. Since this is Smiths first year I'm inclined to believe this direction is coming from the top. Just look at the games where they actually did plan against the grain in past seasons and we can see the results.

This we do what we do attitude just doesn't cut it in todays NFL. You have to adapt for each game and be flexible. I don't know how these guys don't see it.

So many broken pieces with this team that I don't think we will ever recover and be contenders. You think you have fixed one area, but by the time that you proceed to fix another area ... the previous area is broken again.

So many pieces and parts have changed, but still same results. Only 1 common denominator

The more control Tomlin has, the less likely they'll ever be contenders again. The man couldn't coach his way out of a wet paper bag.

I like how some teams will come into a game and you figure they will run the ball as they usually do, or play the short passing game..
but instead, they come out a go deep on the first play, and just keep the defense on its heels with an unexpected game plan, like the Colts did us.

Unfortunately this is a flawed roster that also now has multiple injuries at several important position groups. Oline, OLB and RB rooms are all banged up and the team only has one receiver that would start for most other teams, and even he has his issues.

They wanted their identity to be based around the run but that’s not possible with all these injuries and gaps in the roster. I think people are being a little hard on Arthur Smith, he just doesn’t have the tools he needs right now to make his offence work imo.

Re defence they have a big personnel issue in the secondary with no viable slot CB available until Cam Sutton gets back. We all pointed this out before the season.

The biggest gap of all is QB of course. Fields is doing ok but the Steelers don’t have a QB that you can count on to lead a critical drive.

I will say that I had written them off after the Cardinals and Patriots losses last year. The team looked absolutely terrible and I thought they were cooked. It’s not inconceivable that they get a few guys back and perform better than expected down the stretch, but even if they do you have to ask where the ceiling is. Until they prove otherwise the ceiling is a playoff berth and WC weekend exit.

For a coach that says "We can't live in our fears" he sure lives in his fears a lot.

3rd and 8 were loosing 3 to 0 were at the 28 yard line of Dallas and we run a toss sweep to our 4th string back. It's all you have to know about our offense play calling and fears to pass. Were playing for field goals instead of touchdowns. It's also the reason for slow starts.

This ship started taking on water some time ago and especially when Ben retired. We've had two non-winning seasons with this regime, and it seems like everything we do cannot right the ship the way it needs to. Speculation on how our coaching would do after Ben can probably more accurately be validated by now and its up for all to decide how this is going. As before, it's a dead horse not worth giving it much attention. Been gone since January and this board reads just like it did when I left.

Hoping for the best, but not expecting it unfortunately. JMO>

ALMOST reminds me of the Ravens playoff game where they had one of the strongest running attacks in the league, and threw the ball 40 times. Like that?
