Don't confuse old Ben with Young Ben. He was under center a whole whole lot earlier in his career. Hell in his last year He was under center as much as we've seen in the last Qbs we've had.
That is exactly why I have thought it was funny. Many many many people complained about being under center with our previous Qbs, but now they have all seemed to not care about that anymore now that Fields doesn't do it very much:shrug:
I ....myself don't care either way.....as long as we are winning....., but I find the ones that complained every week about it before.....now it seems to not matter as much strange.

We don't use play action enough. Interesting why Ben didnt like it and preferred shotgun. Less work?

I remember reading either a quote or a statement attributed to Ben. He said he didn't like turning his back to the play.

We are thru 4 games, I hope that MT and Arthur Smith takes the chains
off the Qb. I am afraid they will not. I guess with a beat up and inexperienced offensive
line we should be happy. Make it fun again for the QB and fans.

I think what we saw toward the end of his career was the issues with his knees getting worse. I think he was under shotgun more for the same reason Kurt Cousins was in the pistol so much in the opener. They needed to make it easier on him physically.

Obviously, that isn't the issue with Fields. Maybe he just can't get comfortable taking direct snaps. Maybe he feels like he sees things better in shotgun. He seemed to be under center a decent amount against the Colts, but that is anecdotal at best. I haven't seen the actual percentage of snaps he is taking under center. I would like to see more play-action, which is supposed to be a strength of Arthur Smith's offense, but part of that is finding a consistent running game and trusting the line. Those have been tough to do with all the injuries on the line and at running back.

Thanks for the reminder, i just remember the last 6 or 7 years of his career. Shotgun worked for him, 2011 to 17 were the best years of his career, individually wise, unfortunately not team wise

It was while Haley was OC is when I started noticing that he did it less, and less. I could be totally wrong on when, but that's when I started noticing it.

If the offense is working right, it should be the Pickens and Freiermuth show.

    They hardly get ball.

Call more passing plays for George Pickens.
Call more up the middle rushing plays.

Fire Tomlin and have a crash and burn season where we can get a top 2 qb. Hire an offensive minded coach. Fire over priced defenders and trade WAtt.

    Fix the offense?

The same fix as the past 7 years... Fire Tomlin!

I mean, this guy is a clown, his ONLY strength is occasionally getting a good FA to come to PA, but on the grass, he is incompetent. I said it a few years ago, he would best best served managing a Pop Warner team in North Dakota.

Yep. Frustrating that their higher skiilled players with upside to make a big play are rarely used.

I'd say that is a hallmark of Arthur Smith (Falcons fans miffed that BRob, Pitts and London were invisible while backups with low upside got the touches), but we saw the same crap with Canada and Fichtner.

That all points back to the one commonality, doesn't it?

But hey, the dumbed-down standard is the standard. We're a laughingstock with brief glimpses of quality play.

This is a valid criticism of Arthur Smith's offense he doesn't have enough plays to get the ball to his two best pass catchers.

    Easy!

#1 easily- Revamp the O Line (get all new personnel)!

Then.....Get some running backs with some speed! *Get a veteran QB!! Need a speedy receiver to take thee top off the D!
