RIP... the MLB really F'd up. Watch them now induct him posthumously. Should've happened when he was alive to enjoy it.

Hadn't seen this yet. I loved going to Reds games when I was a kid, and seeing Pete Rose and Johnny Bench play will always be a good memory for me.

Steeler fans care! When someone of note dies they get a nod in the RIP Thread in the Watercooler section plus another thread elsewhere.

Stephen A, who I generally dislike, just had an epic rant about leaving Rose out of Cooperstown. The hypocrisy is mind boggling. MLB profited from him, his uniform, glove and cleats are in Cooperstown. There are racists, and all manner of miscreants and drug users in the hall. But, because Rose bet on his own team as a manager, they leave the all-time leader in hits, games played and at bats out. Yes, Rose had a lot of demons, a lot of skeletons in his closet. But no one exemplified hard work, sacrifice and dedication to the game of Major League Baseball more than him. Also, consider he never came close to the type of money these guys make in one year in an entire 23-year career. He's the poster child for how we all would love to see athletes commit their self to their craft. RIP.

I hated Rose. I'm a Pirates fan, we all hated him. He was one of those guys you loved to hate, but you wanted him on your team. It has made me sick for years that he never got in the HoF. Now, they will likely induct him posthumously. That's really pathetic. Screw MLB.

MLB supports gambling to the roof but it was hard to overlook a manager gambling on his own team. He should have been suspended from being in the HOF for maybe 5 years and then enshrined. No doubt he should have been in there before he passed away. I guarantee he will be in Cooperstown before the 2026 season begins. Too little, too late!

The Reds and Raiders were some of the fiercest rivalries in pro sports. While we Pgh fans "hated" so many of the players on those 70's rivalry teams, deep down we all had a great respect for them individually. Whether it's one of ours that passes or one of theirs, it's still worthy of a moment of silence and a reflection of admiration and as many of you have said, they played sports the way it was meant to be. RIP Pete.

Well said. Any of the rival players pass on, and it does make you reflect. It's very nostalgic and a way of paying respect. RIP Charlie Hustle.
