I think it's ridiculous to trade...at the worst....the best backups Qb maybe in the league .....especially while it's week 2, and the guy starting has never played a whole 16 game schedule....let alone a 17 game schedule.

You won’t have to worry about it because the Dolphins don’t want him.

At this point would you trade Russ to Miami if we could get a 3rd pick in return? What would be your backup plan if you were to trade him? What is realistic compensation?

What are the Pro’s and Con’s of doing this?

It would have been nice to see Russ cook in this offense to see how he would play. Perhaps he would be even better than Fields, however my concern is there isn’t really a long term future with Russ due to his age and the obvious risk of injury and regression in play.

As a result with this defense and the way Arthur Smith game plans it makes sense to stick with Fields even if there are short term growing pains to develop him. The upside with Fields is obviously his athletic ability and his youth.

If we can benefit by trading Russ and avoiding internal conflict amongst the team with Russ not starting and gain draft capital it makes sense. If we were to do this I wouldn’t make the trade for anything less than a fourth round pick. Then I would go out and sign Ryan Tannehill as the backup.

now - yes - after what we have seen for 3 weeks and specifically, yesterday.

but - and IF there is any future, it would be with JF (and there HAS been improvement since he has left the Bears) Kudos to him, Smith, Tomlin and the entire crew!

BUT - I'd love Russ as a VETERAN back up. What an amazing set up that is. Kind of like Charlie Batch back there for years.

    LET's GO!!!!

what could we get for him, remains the question.

you have some very good ideas - including Tenney......

    Yes....

    1) If Fields remains the starter, how long will it be before Wilson becomes a malcontent?

    2) Allen is a capable backup QB.

    3) If fields is your guy going forward, you might as well get something for Russ while you can. I would rather get something for him now than let him walk at the end of the year and get nothing.

It is highly doubtful to me that the Dolphins would part with a 3rd for Russ. Then again I can't see them winning a single game with Skylar Thompson at QB so maybe they are desperate.

Desperate teams do desperate things. Russ could do really well in Miami I believe. You don’t have to go through all the progressions there because option one or two are usually open. Russ is accurate and he has a ton of experience. This could rejuvenate his career. It would fit his and his wife’s lifestyle alot better than Pittsburgh would as well. I am sure he would welcome that move. If it happened I could see it being perhaps a 4th and it would conditionally move to a third if he played a certain amount of snaps.Russ should be a very attractive option for Miami not only based on his experience and pedigree but also he would come cheap contract wise.

No. We can’t rely on Allen to be our only back up.

he did not say to do that. he said to sign TANNEY, which would be just fine.

If Wilson gets healthy and continues to set it will become a distraction, if Wilson gets healthy and Tomlin inserts in as the starter while fields is still winning games, it will become a distraction

I seriously doubt Miami would want Russell Wilson as the main prize. Bryce Young would be the superior option given his circumstacnes in Carolina. Should the Dolphins make an offer the Panthers simply cannot refuse?!.... Bryces time in Carolina will have concluded.

Getting Bryce out of that hellhole will be the best thing ever to happen to him.

Miami could just sign Tannehill if they wanted

Apparently they and 31 other teams don’t want to

This is a very perplexing decision.

Russell cannot even get on the field.. but his price is cheap.
Fields is younger and performing better.

I would imagine it would be the reward, what would they offer?
I really don't expect much of an offer, probably not worth the time and effort to trade him.
I can live with him as our backup.

But if someone is desperate, I couldn't turn them down.

Maybe, it really depends on what they can get for him. I still think they're better off keeping Wilson just in case Fields gets injured

If it was for a blocking WR who can produce numbers or a 2nd.

Sorry but I'm not going to let a good QB go for just a 5th round pick. Russell doesn't cost us anything and is a starter.

These seasons are long and people forget that.

I am sort of along your lines....
My caveat is 'the offer.' A 5th rounder is not going to do it for me.
A desperate team might offer more. (I'm not banking on it by any means)
My ulterior motive is to set us up to draft a QB. So, it would take a little more (not going to happen).

At this point, I'm not sure Tomlin can call Russell is #1... maybe.

I saw nothing I liked this preseason from Kyle Allen. I was not in favor of even keeping him on the 53. I thought with the way Allen played he belonged on the practice squad as the emergency 3rd string QB. With Russ injured, the Steelers had to keep Allen on the 53 to be the backup QB.

Skylar Thompson got injured and left the game in the 3rd quarter, possibly broken ribs. They are now down to Tim Boyle and Tyler Huntley, the Dolphins have to do something fast or their season is completely over.

I wouldn't trade Russ, unless Russ wants to be traded to start when healthy, and it hurts the locker room as he is mad that he isn't starting etc.

I feel like this locker room is moving toward it being Justin Fields team. But, you never know this is the NFL, QBs get hurt all the time.

I much rather have Russell Wilson come in than Kyle Allen.

I don't understand why teams keep giving Tim Boyle these chances? He's tall with a strong arm, but he's stunk every time he's gotten a chance to play. Tyler Huntley is a poor man's Lamar Jackson, but I'd much rather have him starting over Boyle. The Dolphins are desperate for a QB, if the Steelers could get something really worthwhile for Russ, I wouldn't be totally against it, but a lousy 5th round pick just isn't going to cut it. If they do trade Russ, they'd better get a proven player that can actually help us now.

Unless they drop a 3rd or 2nd rounder, which aint happening anyways, gotta keep Russell just in case. Running QB's get hurt more than pocket QB's. It's nice to have that insurance for a million dollars to boot.

Steelers need a 2nd receiver though. I'm hoping Roman Wilson is this years Puka. We will see.
