So, you're saying you don't think Ben will ever play in a playoff game again?

I'm saying it "wouldn't surprise me" if that's the case. I don't think it will happen, but it wouldn't shock me, either.

I agree that we're rebuilding but to say that Ben's played his last postseason game is ridiculous. I don't understand why everyone here thinks Ben is like 2 years away from retirement.

We need to get youger on defense to rebuild that side of the ball, and get a #2 receiver... But can you imgaine 2 years from now when Gilbert, Decastro, and Adams are all hitting their prime, along with Pouncey in the middle... damn.

The sky is definitely not falling in the 'Burgh.. There's plenty of pieces to build around.

My question is...who is this FA they are talking about "Brent Keisel"? Do we have Brett's brother/cousin/etc on the team that is a FA? Hahah...for such a big site/etc...you'd think they'd get names right and also he is not a FA. SMH!

It would not at all surprise me if Ben's final snap in a post-season game occurred last year in Denver.
    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Nomination for most ridiculous thing that I have ever read on this site.

Ben has a solid 6 years left if not more. Sure he takes a pounding but so have many other QB's who have played into their late 30's. His competitive drive alone makes the team a contender for the playoffs year in and year out. His OLine has 2 young number 1 draft picks on it and is starting to come around. The CB's are starting to cover better more now that Lake is coaching them up. DL has a top 5 defense no matter who he plugs in. Even the Field goal kicker is nice surprise. For someone to take this article and spin it as the sky is falling is laughable.

Where's Vega$ when I need them? Put me down for a grand that Ben makes the playoffs again. LMAO!

Tomlin's worth or worthlessness will be proven over the next 2 to 3 seasons. The team has a major leadership void now among the player ranks and it's up to the head coach to find and develop the future leaders of this organization. Hines is gone. Aaron Smith is gone. James Farrior is gone. Some other key leaders, Keisel, Harrison, Hampton aren't far behind. We've theorized and debated on this board as to whether or not Tomlin is a good head coach or whether or not he's been carried by others, players and coaches, who have led the way. It's time for that theory to be tested. It's time for Tomlin to prove his mettle as a quality head coach or go the way of mediocrity and failure as have so many others who have come before him. I'm hoping the former occurs but I fear it may be the latter based on some of the things I've seen out of Tomlin over the last couple of years.

Before Ben went down we were rolling and he was in the MVP discussion. He was never the same after the injury a full off season to get over it. Ben has always bounced back great after a bad year.

Personally I don't understand that statement. If we can resign Lewis and Foote, basically losing Harrison and Hampton from last year's defense, this team will be competitive. They need to get more production from the running game and find a receiver who can help the red zone, but I see no reason why the team can't be in every game they play. This team lost 5 games by 3 points, 4 of which came on game ending FGs (the other was the Balt. game without Ben with Lefty). Switch those outcomes and you have a team which finished 12-4. Add to that the fumble-rooskie game against Cleveland and the bad opener at Denver, and the only game this team performed REALLY bad in was the San Diego game, Ben's first game back after injury.

This team had injury issues. This team will reload, not rebuild. I truly believe that. If we can stay healthy and have a good draft, this team could be stellar this coming year.

    Very well said JackAttack.
I'd like to see more fire from Tomlin this season but am afraid it might be more like Marvin Lewis.

I think in about 3 years we will be seriously competing for a title again. It is going to take some time to get back to where we were.

Maybe I'm just a homer, but I. Feel reel good about this offseason...for one, anytime sports media at large writes us off, the team responds with a strong season..... second, if we do lose free agents, then we're talking about comp picks next draft... we already have a pretty good pick coming to us for willie gay... we very well could be reloading instead of rebuilding.... as far as replacing cut players, the only one I'm worried about replacing would be harrison....... I have faith in us having a rebound season

It would surprise me and shock me if he DIDN'T ever get back to the playoffs. I guarantee you he does.

I don't know. I see three good years left. The injuries are just piling up. And all it's going to take to force him into retirement is one more clean, hard shot to the head. I'm sorry if this sounds pessimistic, but his career is mirroring Aikman's.

Everyone's career is one good shot away from ending. And I think Aikman suffered from a lot of concussions?

As has Ben...2006 motorcycle accident...2008 vs Cincy...2009 vs KC...and I would guess he has had several more that went undetected, including one on the Bart Scott hit in 2006 at Baltimore.

That's 4 in a 9 year career, probably the same as any other QB, Aikman had 10.

I don't think we are, nearly, in as bad shape as some would like to predict. The Steelers are a very prolific team and sportscasters know that it is easy to generate talk/ratings when they speak about the Steelers. Especially, when they are predicting that the Steelers are falling off. The buzz word for the Steelers, the last few years, has been aging. As others have said, Ben was doing great until the injury and we were very close in most of our games. We will be fine. I do agree that we need a running back that can compliment this system, however!

Its amazing how fast a body can break down
even among these superior athletes. That being said, with the amount
of hits #7 has endured his entire career I fear his body is breaking down
and he may have 3 productive years left. He has LOST HIS MAGIC. AND I AM
not so sure he can regain it back, he must try to reform himself to different
type game then he is use to. Is he willing? I have my doubts. We can RELOAD THIS TEAM
BUT AS I HAVE SAID IN PREVIOUS THREADS, WE MUST HIT HOME RUNS IN THIS DRAFT
AND LOOK AT ALL AVENUES TO AQUIRE TALENT.

Yeah I read it as back pedaling on your part. The only thing the writer of that story said was Ben and Tomlin have never missed the playoffs two seasons in a row. If anything the odds are in the Steelers favor.
