Who will win the AFC North?

We went 5-1 in the division. Freak things happen, but 80% of the time you go 5-1 in your division.....You win your division. Is that not correct???? ....is my math off??? It maybe

 

Did 5-1 secure the Steelers the division last season?!

 

Bengals 12-5
Ravens 11-6
Browns 9-8
Steelers 8-9

 

Again. If You look up history....it does over 83% of the time. It just happens that year it didn't. Hell I remember KC winning every game in their division one year, and not winning their division, but like us last year that is a outlier. Like I said ....You beat the teams in Your division 1st, and foremost...and as History has shown (you can look it up) you win your division over 83% of the time. Thats pretty good odds

 

Indeed you do have to win your division.


However, and, as I keep stating, that is only a part of the equation. The winner of the Division isn't solely based on the division record by itself. Conference records and out of conference records also have to be applied as well.


In fact, using your logic, Pittsburgh should have been the number one team in the AFC North based on their record vs their division and nothing else. As much as that would be a good thing for Pittsburgh, it completely ruins the whole concept of having records.


Best overall record in the division wins; not based merely one aspect of the overall record itself.

 

Yes I know this,,but if You go by History....a team that wins 5-1 in their own division wins over 83 % of the time their division. I'm not making this up.

 

Who is saying you are making this up. I agree that winning your division is key.


However and again, there is so much more to a division winner than the division win/loss record by itself. Yes, having that good of a record certainly helps but that alone won't secure the division.

 

I don't think many team have won a strong division with under .500 outside of the division like the steelers last year,so they need to be better in that to have a chance....

 

Honestly I think our whole division is going to regress this year.

Ravens will still be first but they have issues on the oline.

Bengals will be second but it’s all about Burrows health.

Browns will be third but only because I don’t think the Steelers are going to be that good. Watson isn’t what he used to be.

Steelers in last we will miss the playoffs.

 

Tough division, probably the best in all of NFL. Ravens, Steelers, Bengals all right there.
Of course depending on injuries.

I was listening to a talking head today and he commented how the AFCN last season had every team over .500. First time since way back. He said pretty much what you are saying. The AFCN will regress. Must admit I liked his thinking on the subject. He said our boys will be sneaky and could very well win the division. It's funny, a few articles latter I read a guy stating almost total opposite.

 

Well MT stated all the teams are equal right now, so at least we can say we shared the division lead for a week, lol.

 

I think the optimism many felt in the off season could fold very quickly. Injuries happen, things click and we could look like we are in a good place. We could suck from the start, face a brutal end of season schedule and look really bad. I won't try and guess with this team, have felt with this D we could be very competitive in a lot of games and still come out with 6 or 7 wins. We could actually be close and see Boz kick us to several wins and get to 11-7. The NFL in general is that close, the bad are truly bad, but the middle of the pack teams can go from 6 wins to 10 or 11, or vice versa very easily. I think we are middle of the pack, the new O could catch fire and surprise us, or it could suck and continue to embarrass us. Oh well, here it comes ready or not.

 

Browns got a vote.

 

I mainly picked the Steelers last because we have not shown an aptitude to develop the offensive line and the QB. Until we prove otherwise I can’t in good conscience go with us being much of a threat this year.

I think the whole season really does ride on the success of the offensive line play and the QB.

 

I think we may end the Season being a better team than we were last year. But I don’t think our record will be as good for many reasons.

1. The last half of the s he duke is brutal. To have a chance this year I think we have to win 80% of the games on the first half if the s heckle and Tomlin teams traditionally start out slow. This preseason and with all the injuries already and the lack of cohesion on the offensive line are already pretty good indicators we are gonna start off slow.

2. Last year we had a much easier schedule overall and much easier divisional play with every divisional opponent losing their QB.

3. We had a lot of luck and the ball bounced the right way for us last year in close games.

I think ultimately we will grow and truly build an identity on offense this year. Hopefully we develop the rookies and the offensive line and settle in a QB so we have stability going into next year.

If all of that happens I see next year as truly being the year. Next year we complete the rebuild and add a wr2, slot cb and outside cb and another young Defensive lineman through the draft and free agency and we will be set for a legitimate run. At least that’s what I hope happens.

 

I could see that happening, I also could see the team gel, injuries on other teams give us an opening and good things happen. The year we started 11-0, most of us knew it was not that we were that good, the schedule at the end (along with the covid mess) took its toll. Ben said they were exhausted, yes I know they are pros, but the body also is human, lol. Getting up for division games is usually not an issue, getting up and being able to sustain that level for 6 out of 8 weeks, along with the other competition is going to be a task.

and yet we can't win a playoff game (can't even be competitive in one) nor the division. what matters most?

 

I hope I'm wrong, but I see the Steelers finishing last this year in the North. There's not going to be enough offensive production to hang with the big dogs in the AFC. This is nothing against Arthur Smith, Russell Wilson or Justin Fields..... won't be their fault.

 

The Ravens are in the market for receivers with smaller feet. Maybe we can trade for Likely?

 

Likely was their best weapon last night and he was very good last year when Andrews was out,this is not madden,the ravens will not trade him for no good reason
