It's possible Wilson's calf started hurting the second he looked in front of him and saw Dan Moore and Spencer Anderson.

Believe it was the new strength, and conditioning coach, but I have also read that it was Russell's own thing. So.....

Sounds like you found a new business venture. The good news is this is the perfect marketplace for tinfoil hats. :lolol:

I guess you could look at it that way if you wanted too, but I feel like Fields can turn things around here if given the opportunity. I'm sure the coaching staff have worked with him on some of the issues he had with the Bears, and the kid is so physically talented, so you just hope he can pick up on those things with the Steelers. I can understand why Wilson is the #1, but if he does get injured, I don't think the season is necessarily over with Fields in there

Yeah, really. That was beyond idiotic. I don't see Wilson doing much in the way of blocking this year, at least I hope not for his sake, lol. So why even bother with it, especially right before the season starts?

    Based on exactly what

    He sucked in preseason

He can’t/wont look at a receiver down field

I don't think he sucked during the pre-season at all. I thought he showed some poise, and was able to step up in the pocket and make some good short passes. To me that shows some improvement. As I recall, the O-line was getting pushed back pretty consistently, so there wasn't a lot of time to look down the field for many medium to long passes

I'm not saying he played great, but I did see some positive signs of improvement for the reasons that I've already stated. Maybe we're seeing different things, I don't have a problem with that. It seems like some of you guys are already writing Fields off, but can we at least wait and see what he does in a "real" game as a Steeler first?

I'd like to see Fields get the start. You find out if he's worthwhile as a long-term option or not off the bat. If he can't play at a high level, then plug Wilson back in there when he's healthy.

That same type of thought was bouncing around in the empty space in my head......How hungry is Wilson? Is he just chilling while destroying the finances of the Broncos?

I’m not writing him off. Just saying he didn’t play all that well in the preseason.

I think it's pretty stupid to limit the starting QB in practice before opening day when the OC is new and the QB is new and the OL is in shambles and the WRs suck, just to create a smoke screen.

But that's just me... assuming, of course, Wilson was somehow limited in practice.

Here’s the problem neither QB is any good. Wilson is old and broken down clearly. Fields is inconsistent and can’t read defenses on drop back passing plays. From a potential upside perspective Fields is younger and more athletic so there is always that hope something clicks.

I wonder if Russ/ condition staff make use of hypobaric chamber that Hines Ward used
    to help his body recoup?

Not sure about the smokescreen theory, but I think they should play who they project as starters the entire 1st half in these now only 3 pre-season games. Training camp and practice is no substitute for getting in enough actual game reps if you want guys to be physically and mentally ready before the season starts. I know they want to give some of the guys who are on the bubble of possibly making the team some game reps in order to properly evaluate whether or not they're good enough, but I think it's much more important to give the starters enough reps too. They shouldn't be leaving it up to guys to play themselves into shape once the season already begins, with a long 17 game schedule ahead, fitness is paramount. Saving guys for the season just in fear of them possibly getting injured is just dumb, and can easily backfire on them as we've seen

There is possibly 5-6 QB's in the league that might have the QB position down pat. And they still struggle sometimes,
if we can get above average play from our QB room (limit turnovers} I like our chances.

I don't think any QB actually has things down pat, it's a constant learning experience. We'll need better than average performance from Wilson (or Fields), or it will end up being another mediocre season at best
