O’Donnell another average qb went to a SB that we were double digit underdogs. We were in that game late in 4th before he killed us with his 2 int of game. We actually had a chance until than.

I will say this, everyone has their own opinions but comparing Tomlin to Reid is unfathomable! Tomlin barely measures up to stuff on the bottom of Coach Reid's shoe before he steps on the field! Payton is an offensive guru. His head coaching success was primarily a high powered offense and he let his D coordinator do what he does (which bit him SP with the suspensions). But, Drew Brees was a developed by Payton into the player he was. Reminds me of how Montana was brought along by Walsh and Seifert. On other teams (JM was with KC for a minute but had a great supporting cast their too)! But put those guys on a sturggling team like Dan Marino was, they do not do well IMO!

Doesn't seem logical to me. If you win a superbowl with a sub par QB you are the goat

I once won a SuperBowl with a 1-armed punter playing QB. Shows what you guys know.

Dan Marino and Don Shula....Elite, top level QB and the winningest coach in the history of the NFL. 1 SB appearance.

Ok . You have your opinion,,but answer me this....why didn't Sean P develop any other Qbs, and why only one SB with Brees, and How come A. Reid never won a SB in over 16 years without Mahomes?

I always enjoyed the fact we were the last team to beat them that season. A 9-6 slugfest.

Payton didn't nee to! Ha! He had Brees most of his time there. That doesn't really matter though. He's a winner! That's not opinion. That's what matters.

HA! Andy Reid, IMO before KC (at Phi) played in a different era of football. The; coaching and teams around the league were overall better. The parity was better than now. Those Eagle teams had; Parcells, Coughlin Gibbs (ever heard of those guys). That was his division! That's not even mentioning some of the other greats in the entire NFL at that time. That's not even debatable!!

I guess that proves the point about about having a great QB. Ben did not play particularly well in playoff games.

Ahhh....I believe if You look up at a few comments....I talked about Gibbs. Also I guess that playing in the AFCN.....who has had more 3 teams than any division in the history of the NFL in the playoffs at the same time doesn't matter???

Flame away, but Dan Marino is spectacularly over rated. The Dolphins went to the SB the yr before they got him, and did better the 3 yrs after he left than they did his last 3 yrs. His teams finished 3rd or worse in their division more times than they won it. Ok, there was Jim Kelly taking the division, but splain how he finished behind Indy, NE and NyJ so often? The Dolphins did well before he got there, did well after he left, and he was coached by a HoF HC every snap of his life. He’s Peyton Manning without the playoff succes.

But he did go to Pitt and he threw a nice ball.

As has already been pointed out, you just have to have a QB in today's game. Personally, I don't see Andy Reid doing any better with what we have at QB than Tomlin can. Here's where I feel they differ, Reid is infinitely more creative offensively than Tomlin is defensively. I don't know that I have confidence that Tomlin could get the most out of a highly talented QB like Mahomes in the way that Reid has. I also don't feel like he has the ability to put the correct staff around him to do so either. One of my biggest complaints about this team is how archaic the offense feels.
It is an undeniable fact that Tomlin is a good coach. I just don't know if I trust him to be as adaptable to the way the game is played right now.

Even then, Tomlin would still find a way to screw it up

Can't really fault Marino for that, they had no defense. He broke records with two midget WR's, I don't see any other QB being able to do that
