Do you trust Friermuth as target # 2?

I have mixed emotions about this. I feel like he has untapped potential that we haven’t recognized yet. He always leaves me wanting more. His reception in the flat in the Bills game on third down is a perfect example of that. I know it was like 3rd and 15 but he had alot of green grass in front of him. You got a smaller defender coming up on you either run him over, stiff arm him or cut it inside. The last thing you do is try to beat a smaller faster guy to the outside.

There are certain players that instill confidence like Hines Ward or Jaylen Warren. You just know more often than not on a play like that they are going to get that first down. George Pickens has some of that as well. Friermuth doesn’t instill that confidence in me. If he truly is gong to step up as the second primary target in the passing game this year I really think he needs to step up in that respect. We need him to have that killer instinct. Some players just play with that emotion and passion that wills the team behind them.

Ground, Kittle and Kielce are those kinds of TE’s. I’m not saying Friermuth is on their level but we need him to play with that kind of passion.

Kittle and Kelce are both basically #3 wide receivers, I don't see why Muth couldn't be used that way as well. He can't block for ****, but he's a pretty decent receiver. I'm guessing that Austin or Jefferson will be their #2 behind Pickens

don't know why he can't run seam routes, or work the middle of field. 5-10 yard curl routes and the like. I think Wilson will love him. Now - is he a big enough target? Not sure.

BUT - Washington is! Use them both. Mix and match.

Be creative Smith and do it fast.

of course, with this OLINE, it might not matter for a while. Survival will be the goal the first month, and the Defense should be able to help us do that in September.

Muth is a great receiver, he however lacks speed and elusiveness. He is a check down type with splash play ability at times. Washington is slower but seems to move better with the ball from what little we have seen of this. I would like to see Washington used more this 3rd game to see what he brings as a pass catcher and chain mover. As a whole we really only have 1 big play receiver and thats Pickens. We need to run lots of crossers and rub routes to free these smaller faster WR's.

    This.

A problem with play calling / execution last 2 years was not involving Muth enough. He caught 7 TDs with Ben in his rookie year. Perhaps RW can get him the ball. The more they do, the more the other guys can get open as well.

I thought the same thing when that play occurred, but gave him a semi-pass because it's pre-season. Remember those few exceptional Vance McDonald YACs? Pure beauty. A few of those guys are probably still shaking off the cobwebs. While his tenure was short with the Steelers, I think that's exactly the type of determination and grit you're talking about. :thumbs up:

Yes it is. I see it Jaylen Warren and I saw it in Hines Ward.

Yes. Muth catches most balls thrown in his direction and runs forward. Very comfortable with that.

Yeah he's not ready to be no 2 yet. Honestly i dont see much difference between him and our previous TE Vance McDonald. Except maybe Vance would try to run over defenders. PF is more finesse. Maybe PF has better hands but production wise, meh.

Though maybe another victim of the canada system

Great hands but always afraid of his injuries, seems to get hurt every year during the course of the season.

I’m Luke warm on him. I like him as a good character person and teammate and of course as a receiver. But in the NFL. He’s a middle of the pack receiving TE. No where near the top (like I thought that he was going to be) and certainly not at the bottom.

With the likely growing pains of this young, seemingly shaky, and hanging by a thread starters O-line I am putting all my hopes and the brakes on of Washington making a leap from all blocking to a solid receiving target. Dude needs to stay put and help these Tackles out. They need every bit of help that they can get.

I like Muth, but he's no Heath. Hoping he breaks out a little more this year.

Kelce is the Chiefs #1 receiving option. WR spot has been dismal since Hill left.

The big question will be whether or not they offer Muth a contract extention after this season? Guess it really depends on how well he does this year, but T.J. Hockenson who had very similar stats to Muth his first 3 years signed a 4 year 66 million contract, so keeping Muth won't be cheap

He would be a lot better if the Qbs actually seen him when He is open.

I honestly don’t think they re-sign him. Felt the near exact way about the Najee deal last year.

The money vs. production just doesn’t make sense. No matter if it’s their fault or not. Maybe it is more abot the coordinator, scheme, o-line, and QB. Doesn’t matter, the whole compromised structure cannot support it.

UNLESS(!) he has some breakout season and always being in the right spots and open or getting major YAC. Then that changes the whole algorithm I’m seeing with my eyes and head.
