I thought it would happen. Herbig is going to be a beast, but this season's schedule is brutal, one of the major weakness the last several years was the losing gas toward the end of the season. We know one reason for that and hopefully Smith's O can make a difference, but Alex and TJ being fresh and/or a short injury this depth is 'Golden" (was not intended, just came out, lol)

 

It used to be that three EDGEs were good enough. Sadly, within the past five seasons, this isn't proving to be the case anymore.


Many of the Leagues best Pass rushing Defenses often carry four of them. Granted, Nick Herbig is so unique that to classify him as a mere EDGE is disingenuous but he is primarily used as one. Having someone like Markus Golden again will not only benefit Pittsburgh in the short term but also benefit the younger EDGEs like Herbig and Moon.

Yeah,if they put 3 pass rusher at the same time on 3rd down,it would be great for us!

Remember,in 2007 the giants won the super bowl with lineup like that and the opposing team like the pats had no answer against that!

They used that three OLB set when Dupree was on the team too.

 

I am expecting more blitzing from ILB position this year .
More pressure from not just TJWatt. Inside DL need to
to step up too. Benton needs to have a huge year, redshift year is done!

 

It has to be proven, but with the talent already proven, and the propsects of recent pick ups and drafts, this D could shape into a very scary unit.

 

No brainer. Great move.

 

Herbig Jr has to see field more,maybe as a blitzing IlB or the rookie
from NC State blitzing .Take the leash off these guys and let them make plays.

 

Heyward, Benton, Watt, Highsmith, Herbig, Queen, Porter, Jackson, Fitzpatrick, Elliott, Kazee/Bishop/? in the nickel package would be very interesting. Who subs out in the dime package?

I think this defense has the potential to be really good against the pass. We made a lot of upgrades to cover the middle of the field and the short to intermediate routes.

I’m still a little worried about defending the run. But not many teams are built to stop the run anymore.

 

Don't forget the Steelers did not start or play too many starters tonight.
