Um, who? No link yet, it's on the homepage under a tweet. Disappointed that they didn't bring in Tunch or Dawson, maybe they tried and they turned them down but somehow I doubt it. Hopefully this guy is good.

An interesting hire. Here's an interview with Coach Tomlin about selecting Bicknell as the OL coach.~ stlrs.co/VlZLe9

He's experienced with both zone and man schemes, and the Chiefs had a lot of rushing success with the zone scheme last season.

I like the Hire. I read where Tomlin likes the tape of KS OL play and how Charles had lanes. It tells me he has taken the right steps in diligently accessing the prospects body of work and what he's recently put on film.

I also like the fact he has coached his KS OL which had no passing attack to a successful running attack against everyone in our division. He already knows our competition which is a step up. He is a technique teacher and we have a youth movement here, should be a good fit.

Well he is coming into a kinda good situation I would think for him. Bicknell is inheriting a young group of guys for the most part. If we let Starks and Foster walk, and release colon, that means the guy with the most experience on our starting line would be Pouncey. Bicknell will be able to shape these guys into what he wants, and he has an opportunity to make a name for himself with this group. Gonna be interesting to watch in unfold.

I like what I am reading on this guy, why did the Chiefs let him go? Andy Reid bring his own guys in?

A cool bit of trivia...he was the center who snapped the "miracle in Miami".

This hire screams switching to a zone blocking scheme, now we need a rb that fits that scheme. Redman doesn't fit and Dwyer is slightly better suited for it, but not much. Mendy and Rainey would be perfect, but we know that story.

The people on the Steelers Facebook page are losing their minds. They are all pissed off about hiring another "loser" from KC.

I guess they all want one of the Hall of Fame O-line coaches that are currently in the market and chomping at the bit to come to Pittsburgh.

I posted an article about a month ago that advocated switching to zone blocking, I thought the article made a good argument for it, seems the Steelers agree.

I'm all for it, but we need a fast shifty running back for that type of system.

For what it's worth, Mendy said he is open to coming back, not sure if the Steelers want him back but with the season Mendy just had, I can't imagine him getting a huge contract, Steelers might be able to afford him.

And this, my friends, is why following the Steelers on facebook is intensely irritating. I do like the comment suggesting that Tomlin hire an offensive line coach to tell Ben to sit out of games when he's injured, though. Makes perfect sense.

Back to the hire - One point stuck out in particular about the article on Steelers.com: he organised a line that put up 214 rushing yards against the Ravens. That right there is reason to believe!

Yeah I remember that article. I'm 100% for Mendy coming back. If we could actually put together a solid offensive line I'm positive that he would be an outstanding running back for us. Far better than Redman or Dwyer. Don't get me wrong those two can serve a purpose, but they aren't feature backs by any stretch of the imagination. Personally I think Haley's rotating running back scheme is beyond idiotic and has a lot to do with Mendy's season. All of the backs get a couple of carries, but none of them ever get into a rhythm.

We already are a zone blocking scheme team, at least in the passing game. The Steelers use a Man Blocking scheme in the run game and a Zone blocking Scheme on passing downs.

To me this is one of the reasons Ben gets sacked so often ( other than him holding the ball too long). I would preferr a ZBS in the run game and MBS in the passing game.

Either way he can coach both and our players have ran both so the fit here for hjim continues to grow.

True, but this guy ran a stretch zone in KC and NY. Our pile of 300 lb bodies at the line of scrimmage on running plays is in no way, shape, or form similar.

Not trying to be arguementive but Jamaal Charles isn't the best fit for stretch zone blocking as it schemes out to the furthest offensive player. There's also the Inside Zone (IZ) which is inside the OTs where I think Charles had alot of success. The Outside Zone Scheme (OZ) is plays just outside the OTs.

You are correct in we don't have the right OL for the Stretch ( nor do we have the right RBs) but don't forget in the stretch blocking scheme the TE & FB & WRs are key. I still like the hire and hope he implements more ZBS in the run game.

What do you expect? Its where the casual fan hangs out. When they announced that they were going to release Hines Ward, there was near anarchy and doom and gloom predictions filling FB.

Yeah I definitely don't consider Facebook a bastion of intellectualism for sure. As a matter of fact, now I actually feel better about the hire!!! LOL.
