Well, they're probably looking for an outside WR not a slot guy like Boyd.

There were reports Boyd was looking for 9 million a year when free agency started, the Steelers moved on he probably took the best deal he could get after the draft.

He either has a great trade up his sleeve or he is following the Pirates' model of playing the scrap heap.

Even if you buy those reports, there is no reason the Steelers couldn't have checked back in at $5 million. Instead, they tried to lowball him and got nothing.

Not a big loss for a guy who is on the downside of his career.

LOL.... No he probably just watched MoneyBall and his plan is to replace DJs production with the 4 Free Agent WRs they just picked up.

So you want them to play it like the Pirates, digging for scraps nobody else wants. Got it.

Well, last year was Pickens, Johnson, Austin and a collection of roster fodder. Johnson was good for 51/717/5. The rookie taken in the third round to replace him is largely projected as a faster, better-hands version of Johnson, who himself as a third-round pick put up 59/680/5 in his rookie year.

I am pretty sure the WR depth Chart was 1) DJ 2) Pickens 3) Allen Robinson.

We have removed 2 of the 3 starters from last year, and have not really replaced them yet.

    1) Pickens 2) Maybe a Free Agent to be named later? 3) Maybe a Rookie 3rd rounder??? I see the Rookie competing with Calvin Austin for the Slot Role in 2024.

i think you are a little harsh about scrap heap. yes boyd had a couple of good ones ahead of him so did the guys we picked up this off season. the rams had a couple of real good ones. philly had a couple of good ones too.

maybe this is all they are going to do. they didn't have great qb play to really see if austin can do more but it was also really his rookie year of playing. can you name mahomes top go to wr last year? he didn't have a clear one or two and they won the super bowl. i think they may bring in another lower level player that has some upside but was behind some other good ones on another team. it doesn't mean they are no good and nobody wanted them.

That is a little misleading if you leave out that Johnson missed four games with injury.

Who did Van Jefferson have ahead of him in Atlanta? That is where he spent most of the 2023 season. Also, he wasn't even a No. 3 with the Rams. He was pushed off the roster.

Jefferson and Watkins combined to catch 35 passes last season. Scrap heap is accurate.

I think they still have a bad taste in their mouth from the Allen Robinson signing. Boyd is similar to Robinson ... old, slow and more than likely unproductive. We don’t need more of the same. I truly think Khan is going for bigger fish.

Boyd is 29, so the claim that he is old doesn't hold up. Slow? What is his 40 time?

Cute, but if anything, that take makes the use of last season's statistics even more misleading.

Come on, you are better than that. We have no idea what offers were made, but the bottom line is FA is a 2 way affair. If an offer was made he rejected it. If a counter offer was made, he accepted the offer at another place for personal reasons. Honestly for the 4 to 5 mill range I would try and bring back Robinson. His production was down last year, but nearly everything for the entire O was. His blocking and maturity is something the WR room lacks.

I am cute - and the stats are not misleading, DJ is a solid #2 receiver, nothing more.

NOTHING more. His production will not be missed. because there was so little over it for 3 years. plus he ran backwards and dropped every 5th pass.

You were probably belly aching when we sent one trick pony Mike Wallace packing. I remember ALL THE WHINERS wondering how in the world we would ever score touchdowns again thru the air.

    Just give it up.

No one will be pining for DJ this year.

adjustments will be made and we will score more than 16 points per game which is got with DJ and Kenny and Canada.

If Boyd was of great why did he last in Free Agency as long was he did? Talk about scrap heap.

I imagine Robinson would be cheaper than that after doing so little in 2023. I find it incredibly difficult to believe that Boyd would have turned down a one-year, $5 million offer from his hometown team given that he ended up signing for $4.5 million.

He lasted that long because he thought he was going to get a multiyear deal for a lot more money. This happens to some free agents every year. How do you not know this?
