Ill throw another possible need in there:

    TE.

we have PF who is injury prone
    Heyward who is undersized
And Washington who we are unsure can produce.

might be a good idea to grab another TE in rounds 3-5. Or pickup someone in FA. What is JJ up to?

They also have Rodney Williams from last season, and the TE they signed in free agency.

There is absolutely such thing as BPA. The only exception is QB.

If you are loaded at WR and the BPA is a WR and the positions of need would be a reach then you either trade back or you take the WR. You can never have enough depth at any position on the field except for QB, K, and P.

A running back or LB will never be the best player available when we draft. Because none of them ever rank im not he top 40 anyway.

There are 3 potential scenarios where the BPA might not match an area of immediate need for us:

    Edge: Verse, Latu or Turner
    DT: Byron Young
    TE: Bowers

Assuming some or all of these guys are available and are ranked higher on the Steelers board.

In this scenario so you pick the best BPA need or the actual best player available?

Personally, if Bowers or the DT Young are on the board and they are ranked higher than the nerd based BPA. I'm definitely taking Bowers and Young. But I'll pass on the Edge guys.

was williams on the practice squad? I dont know anything about the FA. I suppose there are a few more pressing needs like WR, C, and ILB but i at least hope they can get something out of washington this year if they dont select a TE

Steelers trade back a few slots and pick up the remaining OL (Fashanu, Mims, Barton, Fauga, Fautanu, Latham, etc).... say Steelers trade #20, #119 (1st, 4th) to Cowboys for picks #24, #87 (1st, 3rd). They would have added to their OL and still have a 2nd round pick and three 3rd round picks. They could even trade pick #51 and #98 to the Commanders for pick #40 and still retain 3rd round picks #84, #87. With picks 24, 40, 84, and 87... you are talking 4 draft picks in the top 90.

Make no mistake, I'd be okay with Barton pick, but if they feel he "projects" to eventually become a good OC, then pass. I don't want a guy that can't be plug and play. If they think, at a rather tall 6'5" that he can snap AND keep low leverage against bowling ball NTs and DTs, cool, draft him and I'll keep my fingers crossed. I'd rather have a bowling ball of an OC. The upside of Barton though, IF he can manage stout NTs (big iff), he would be a niced sized OC and they could move him to OG if another good OC comes up as BPA in 2025 or 2026 draft.

I just FEAR the jack-of-all-trades, master-of-none. We need another pro-bowl OC for most of the next 6-8 years so that isn't a bother for a while.

What do you mean big iff? Have you washed his tape? He is violent and strong. We tried a bowling ball in the middle with Green and he got pushed all over the place. This guy is the best Center on the board. It is consensus by all the pundits. I am assuming they know what they are talking about.

Williams was on the active roster for a few games when Muth was injured IIRC, they signed veteran TE MyCole Pruitt who played under Arthur Smith with Atlanta.
