Seems to do great with a healthy line but this past season did terrible with a line hit with many injuries. With the amount of injuries we always seem to have, maybe a guy who teaches great technique would be a better choice? Like someone similar to Lake but for the line. Seem's like a solid candidate if our guys can stay healthy though, SD did really well.

On a side note, being a fan of this team in the off season is really tough! They play things so close to the vest that no one has any idea who they are considering :lolol:

Let's be honest Mac, any name we throw out there for discussion is going to be shot down by numerous ppl with the typical "Why do we want that bum" or " No thanks look at his record" Doesn't matter if Castillo was a top candidate or just fan speculation meant for discussion there would have been so many posts against it that it is probably a good thing he did sign with a division rival.

By that I mean the consensus would be that he sucks and so he can only hurt one of our rivals.

i don't worry about that stuff much thorn, i know better. i've been involed in football my whole life, and i look deeper at things then most when it comes to players and coaching.

why we won't go get proven coaches is beyond me thorn. we have now let two of the best at positions we need upgraded get away to of all teams oakland and baltimore. castillo and april could have made a huge difference here. colbert worries me more and more i hate to say.

I feel the same way when discussing hockey and the Penguins Mac. The last couple of season's some of the things Ray Shero the Pens GM has said make me think he wants free agents to fall all over themselves thanking their lucky stars that the Pens want them. For some players that just isn't the case sometimes you get kids like Jordan Staal who just didn't want to make a decision about the next 10 years of his life with out thinking it over doesn't meant he doesn't want to be in Pittsburgh. Sometimes you have a player like Zach Parise who wants to go home to Minnesota and play in front of his home town fans doesn't mean he wasn't glad for the Penguins interest. Shero just makes it seem like that. So maybe Colbert and the front office are lookign for guys like Haley who were jumping for joy about being part of the Steelers organization and are instead getting some mild interest but not the level they feel they should be seeing and that is why they are turning their backs on some good prospects because they aren't feeling the gratitude. Just a thought.

well with the way colbert says he's disappointed in himself for an 8-8 season, you'd think he would want to change how he does business if he want's it to change. we can't have all hometown hero's. or maybe we could. (lake) though not from here , he played his career with us. he's worked out well. maybe tunch should be looked at for the O-line spot.

as for the pens, this is one of the few seasons i haven't paid alot of attention to what they have done offseason. you will have to keep me informed.

Priceless, the guy who isn't available gets all the attention. Anyone know anything about the guy who could be a candidate?

Heh heh. I was poking fun at the fact that we don't know any candidates yet. :lolol:

I don't really know a whole lot about Hunter, but it would seem that the Chargers kept the sacks in check behind his lines for the most part, but struggled on the ground at times. Wasn't he the OC this past season?

Maybe they are promoting the ST coach :fright:

Hunter was still the line coach for SD last year, did very poorly with a line that suffered a rash of injuries and Rivers being sacked 49 times.

I know this much about him, the Walmart greeters he brought in to play offensive line in the game against us played like a bunch of All-Pros! Those no-names manhandled our front 7 all day long!!! For that reason alone let's give him a look.

From this article: "Hunter’s lines have helped protect Philip Rivers[IMG] for all four of the quarterback’s seasons as a starter, and the Chargers have scored almost 450 points per game in those years."

Don't know about you guys, but I find 450 points per game to be REALLY impressive in any sport but golf. :)

if these coaches are so proven then why are they available? I trust the front office to make the right decisions. I mean cowher and tomlin werent proven but they brought us titles. dont worry i think they know what they are doing.lol

Dude my buddy is a die hard Chargers fan and Rivers has been KILLED these past couple of years. He is furious with their o line. I would say that he would tell us to steer clear. I'll ask him tonight if I think to call him after church. I think he would say don't do it though.

The Chargers just like the Steelers OLs have been hurt my a lot of injuries the last couple years. A coach can only do so much with what hes given. Before the large number of injuries/etc he looks to have done a solid job.

howard mudd would be my pick. then bring in joe jacoby or tunch ilkin as his assistant. most teams have two O-line coaches, or versions of coach and run game coordinators. so after all this hunter will most likely be the guy.:smiley1::cool:

I was gonna start a thread on our OL coaching search but since you have this one I'll join in here.

I was hoping for Tony sparano and had a thread asking about him. He now has joined the Raiders with April so it seems they're working hard on a potentially great staff.....hint to Tomlin-time is running out on top candidates.
I was considering juan castillo who it seems the steelers had interest in but the Ravens has snatched him up... tick tock tick tock mr. tomlin.

I was looking at what Steelersdepot had posted and you linked about Hal Hunter Jr. Looks like by default we may end up with him.

Mac threw a name out there in coach Mudd. I was looking at Joe D'Alessandris-- since Juan & tony are gone--- as he was who replaced Coach Kugs in Buffaloe. He coached eight different line combo's and still allowed a league low 23 sacks. Well, it is now TOO Late for him as McCoy has hired him in San Diego.......

Hey Coach T..... building a great Staff is a key to being a Great Head Coach and us winning Numer 7.... Time is running out and Top Guys are getting jobs elsewhere...................Please get busy, the Senior Bowl is about over.... tick tock tick tock!!!!!

Tunch or Dirt Dawson have been my choices all along, I'd be very happy with either. Hunter has done well until last season which was marred by injuries much like our season but I'd think outside the box and go with my other choices if they'd be willing to coach.

hunter build in one week a full new offensive line that come to pittsburg playing pretty well , now i don't know if it was for our lack of pass rush or not but did an incredible job in only one week

i'm not talking about head coaches. i'm talking about position coaches, the ones that teach technique to our players. or don't teach it in some instances. it's like fielding a team full of rookies and expecting them to win it all on their own.
