After the 1995 season, Bill Cowher had a decision to make. WRs coach Chan Gailey was getting a lot of attention as an OC candidate, but Ron Erhardt was the OC and had been for four seasons. Cowher fired Erhardt (officially a resignation) and promoted Gailey. All Gailey did was work wonders with Kordell in his second season as OC. Of course nobody could forsee Jerry Jones swooping in and stealing Gailey to be HC of the Cowboys.

Regardless, a good head coach makes the tough decisions and cuts people loose when the time has come. Tomlin won't do with with LeBeau, and as a result, this team will likely have no strong replacement for LeBeau when the time comes.

Comparing Ron Erhardt to Dick LeBeau?

An also-ran vs a HOFer? An innovator? C'mon man.

And all LeBeau has done consistently had the Steelers defense at or near the top for almost a decade. 1st again this year (OK 6th for you guys who go by scoring). 1st last year (scoring too). 2nd two years ago (1st scoring). Sure the D could get more pressure and TOs, but you cant run LeBeau out of town because of the lack of.

And how do you know what Butler will perform like? He is an unknown commodity after all. And he is responsible for one of the Steelers problem areas (LBs getting pressure). Gailey as WR coach had a big hand in the Steelers O in Erhardts last year. He was all for the spread em out and chuck it around O that got them to the SB. Erhardt was a grind it out guy and why he was canned and replaced with Gailey.

Ron Erhardt had some pretty good success. I always liked him.

Cowher had a big say in what was going on with the offense. Steelers were going to be a power run team, end of story.

    1. Ron Erhardt was a below average coach.
    2. Arizona is weakest at the most important position of all...owner. They lose their own good free agents because of their awful record and reputation. Wiz made three big mistakes that cost him his job, he ignored the QB position too long and his hiring of Russ Grimm who is responsible for an awful OL and third, not one player Wiz drafted on offense turned out to be even an average NFL player.
    3. Butler is being paid DC money as an asst DC basically plus a promise to replace DLB so that's why he's staying and waiting.

lol for below average Erhardt has just as many rings as a coordinator As the DL....and more wins as a head coach
As a below average collage coach he went 67-7-1.
in 3 season as head coach of the Patriots went 9-7,10-6,2-14
DL never coached collage and in 3 years of coaching the bunholes went 4-9,6-10,2-14
Very similar coaching records huh? DL is great but Erhardt was a great coach as well,,,
