You know the Steelers will be bringing back the I-Formation under Arthur Smith, so where is the lead blocking FB going to come from?

    On the Roster
Connor Heyward. 6'0 and 230 lbs
Jack Collette. 6'2" and 237 lbs

With Arthur last year in Atlanta
Keith Smith 6'0 and 240 lbs, but will be 32 years old.

And then the draft. Funny, 4/5 of these players are 6th year seniors.

If Connor Heyward, can live in the gym and bulk up, and come in at 6'0 240, you have a younger version of Keith Smith. Although I don't think Connor has ever been a lead blocker before.

The Steelers have 2 6th round picks this year if they don't believe in Collette and want someone to push Heyward for the FB position.

You know this position was a complete Cluster-F last year under Matt Canada as they were allowing Kendrick Green to try out for FB in training camp.

By looking at your post I'd say we already have 2 options on the roster. Collette is actually listed as the FB. Are you suggesting adding another through the draft?

I am suggesting with Arthur Smith's offense they are going to need a starting FB on the active roster. Not a partimer, I don't even know if Collette makes the 53 man team next year.

The two #1 Seeds last year, in the 49ers and Ravens, had their FBs playing in 50% of the offensive snaps.

The FB position on the Steelers has been a complete waste since the Steelers signed Derek Watt and then did nothing with him in the offense. I think Arthur Smith is going to completely change this philosophy.

First, why assume Collette can’t make the 53 in this scenario?

2nd, This was part of Heyward’s arsenal when he was drafted.

I also see Wash as a potential HB/FB piece in Smith’s offense.

I don’t see this as a draftable position at this time. I would be more inclined to draft another RB first.

Keep this discussion going. It’s worth exploring. I do think a modern FB needs to be role versatile.

They're going to miss Robinson. He was key in many of those longer runs especially to the edge.

Yes sir. He did a lot of hard work with his blocking. A guy that was a genuine star that can play with no ego and do whatever the team asks him to do, and do it well.

Every team needs a guy like that.

Maybe they could still bring him back? Haven’t heard of him signing anywhere yet.

I know there was sentiment on the board for lack of production, and I thought it unlikely they would keep him with the price of the former contract, but aloso felt he did things unseen that really helped, especially later in the year as the run game came on. Have bo idea if he is even on their radar, but not t bad guy to have in the locker room.

Interesting about Ravens and Niners. Didn't realize it. I-formation, these Steelers sure are not my Grandma's Steelers.**

**Although she'd never knew what the NFL was.

Colletto is an absolute stud! At Oregon State, he played; QB, RB, FB, LB and was a SP teams star! He makes things happen, simply put! He's a hard nosed, blue collar player. I was saying he should be a Steeler when he was a SR at Oregon State.

He has to make the 53 man roster first.

But I will say that Jack is kinda like a "George Kittle" as a FB! Not as huge as most FBs but he is athletic, smart and just has a nose for the ball (on both sides of the ball). He could probably be an OLB too if needed!
