Congratulations, Jack, you are a saint and dont mind being jerked around. :thumbs up:

By the way, thought you were tired or was it just because Kuntz blew up your narrative that Kenny is afraid of competition.

Yeah, I think he just insured that he's going to be the future at the #2 QB position, at best.

And I didn't say Fields was a finished product, I have watched some Bears games since he came into the league, that team had no OL and the weapons on offense were below average.

Yet you were down on Howell despite him being in a much, much worse situation this year, and playing his first season as a starter not his 3rd.

I don't think Howell is an NFL starting QB, Fields is salvageable, I think he can improve his game with the Steelers.

Anyone know anything about Justin Fields Center from last year Lucas Patrick? 958 snaps last year with Chicago.

Lucas Patrick was he ranked better or worse than Cole?

    Good: No Sacks allowed
Bad: Led the league in Penalties last year with 11.

You say he is irrelevant, yet you and others keep rambling on about him. That he didn't work out has an effect on the 2024 Steelers and beyond.

Yes, the Steelers have stood by some troubled players. They have failed others. At best, they looked the other way with steroid use in the '70s. At worst, they encouraged it. They bear guilt right along with the rest of the league for a shameful history with concussions. Again, they are better than most organizations in the NFL, but that is a low bar.

They leaked information to make themselves look better by getting fans like you to blame Pickett for the organization's failure. Yes, he should have played better, but they drafted him, they put him in poor situations, and they gave up on him so they could roll the dice on Fields.

D.J. Moore was better than any receiver the Steelers have last season and Cole Kmet is a playmaker at tight end. The line isn't great, but Fields is also among the worst in the league at holding the ball too long.

And Fields stats improved last season with Moore, Fileds threw more TDs than all three of the Steelers QBs combined, he does get sacked too often and needs to make quicker decisions.

I hope Justin Fields gets playing time this year. Not through poor play of Russell Wilson, but at least put him in Q4 to see what he can do if we are ahead. It would be great to keep him fresh and not just throw him into a game due to an injury. This will give us a look into the future with Fields as our QB. While I hope Russell Wilson plays well, I have a concern of the contract extension for a then 36-year-old QB. I'd rather have a good indication of what 2025 holds.

If fields doesn’t pan out I’d like us to know as soon as possible so we don’t think about resigning him. Maybe he gets a shot this year, if Wilson goes down. And we see what he’s all about. Then we dump them both if necessary and start with new coach and Qb room in 25. The Wilson -Fields experiment is Tomlins baby. With the fields part a sort of last minute thing.

After 15 years of Colbert draft picks (successsful) vs. Tomlin draft picks (unsuccessful), we get to go from Khan free agent signings to Tomlin free agent signings. Same people, same song and dance.

Luv em as a runner but not a QB. He’s a TO waiting to happen. However, at that price point Da Bears made Khan an offer he couldn’t refuse. The question now becomes, how do we use him in combination with Russell? He’s gonna cost big bucks to just to keep as a backup but how much? Look for Khan to draw up a completely new contract on him, I mean in days here cuz his contract options coming up fast. Did Khan take him at that price as an investment he can deal later? That would be something! He had to take em, now what?
    :hmm:

They don't have to exercise the fifth-year option, so the Steelers aren't on the hook for that unless they chose to be.

Right thats my point though. They’re gonna draw something up here real real soon, like in days , to avoid that. Look for a new contract on him here soon and what’s that gonna look like? His agent had to be on board with it.

Are you missing the fact they can just let him play this year on his contract and do nothing else

Or skip the 5th year option and negotiate an extension over the summer

They don’t need to do anything soon and quite likely will not

Maybe, since there's no real market for him, you extend him for two years after this year for backup money with incentives to make a good bit more.

Next year, you draft a potential starter and give Fields his shot. If he plays really well, you have another season with him to extend him, or trade him if your second year guy looks really good. If he bombs, you can easily cut him. They have almost nothing invested.

This is assuming that Wilson is a one year guy.

If Wilson has a good year, he may not be a 1 year guy.
