in an earlier post I mentioned Dan Patrick and a discussion on his show. One thing spoken was the lack of big money/long term contracts. Mentioned were several that have not worked out and McCaffery perhaps being the last we will see. I like Najee, but he is not McCaffery, and while he might put together a very impressive year, I just cannot fathom a huge amount being offered when you see others..possibly better sitting in FA. He can ask, Omar and co. can do it, but the trend is not in his favor.

Where did PF injury situation fall into this? QB executing for the Steelers? Opposition defensive game plan?

Actually you can’t. You have a narrow minded view of the game and don’t think coaches are responsible for anything.

I responded with facts about the personnel used and how Muth responded with a big game you respond with word salad. Smith likes using TE’s in his game plan, Muth stands to benefit from that. It’s not complicated.

Tickles me so much that the Steelers fired Canada because of fans like you. iTs tHe pLAyeRs.

I’m having my doubts the firing of Canada was influenced significantly by the opinions on this fine message board

    Maybe I’m wrong

Actually I can. Who is the highest PAID OC in the NFL?

I never said that coaches are NOT responsible for "anything". Show me this quote.

Players generally win or lose games. Every now and then a coaching decision can win or lose a game ON GAME DAY.

It's not that complicated, Bro. Watch the games? Study the game film?

What's the difference between the Chiefs and the rest of the NFL? Reid was a good coach before PM. After PM he became an all time coach.

Trust me, AR was hammered in Philly for player failures. Cowher and coachers were hammered by Steelers fans.

I'd probably agree with you if teams remained relatively equal from game to game. There are a lot of factors that come into play week to week.

I'm sure Najee isn't dumb like LeVeon to sit out a season in your prime .

The loyalty issue dates back long before Tomlin.

Yes if they exercise the 5th year option

2025 would be the 5th year

You haven’t said it but I have also never seen you put any blame on coaching either. It’s always players with you. Don’t you think Canada must have been pretty bad for the Steelers to fire him during the season? First time they have made an in season coaching change since 1941. Clearly they felt he was hurting the team more than just every now and then as you put it.

I pointed out one of the difference between Muth and James was the OC and you chime in that OC’s don’t tell QB’s where to throw the ball. That statement just shows a complete lack of understanding of game planning. Canada, just by being aware of the personnel groupings you can tell he isn’t as high on getting TE’s involved as Smith is. Smith likes big personnel packages, likes a lot of 3 TE looks, or 21 personnel, 2 RB’s 1 TE. Those are both good things for Pickett. Smith also employs the MOF which has been largely ignored the last several seasons. Pickett actually does well throwing to that area of the field so Muth will benefit from that as well.

Why do I need to say it when the facts are obvious throughout the history of sports? Players generally win or lose games. It doesn't take a mathematical genius to realize this fact. When black players were introduced they dominated.... I don't need to get into the details of history.

Simply watch the games. Who made the plays vs who didn't make the plays. Easy right?

Ownership, HC, QB. Ownership, QB, HC is the bottom-line hierarchy of the NFL. The ownership has the final say GM, HC, OC, DC, SP, on major draft picks and free agents.

Game day decisions are generally reserved to the HC and coaching staff. "FANS"

    The timing is wrong.
The 5th year option for players drafted in 2021 has to be decided by this May, before 2024 plays out.

No need to extend either of these guys

I would pick up the fifth year option on Harris

Let Muth play out his last year, if he balls out they can extend him or franchise tag him for 2025, the tag for TE’s is very reasonable

If anybody should be getting a modest extension it’s Jaylon Warren, nobody has outperformed their contract more than him

i agree about warren. lock him in. i'm wondering if muth may be on the trade block (no pun intended) with DJ in a package deal. maybe they draft a blocking and receiving TE. muth has a injury history and his blocking is still suspect after 3 years. does he fit smiths system?

Harris I believe will get the 5th year option. But after that he will be gone and bang the table to get paid. They are not going to shell out for a running back. 7 mill for the option.

Frieirmuth is a different matter. I have said the receiver group as well as the defensive line is thin. Lets add the tight end room.

They are backed into a corner.

Muth is the receiver. Washington is the big lug blocker. And Heyward is??? Can't put a stamp on him.

I would extend Muth another two years. I don't believe it would be a back breaking contract. But its up to the agent. Could franchise him next season.

Tight end should be a priority in 2025.

This! The kid is a keeper and they need to lock him up with a decent pay raise. There are a lot of teams i'm sure that would like his services. He is a big part of the offense.

Washington was a rookie last year and The team/Canada only gave him 10 targets of which he caught 7

To me it seems a little early to write off his receiving ability

Not writing it off just the reality of how he was used. Maybe Smith who likes to use the tight ends can get him more involved as a receiving threat. He definitely has quite a height advantage.
