I would have kept him as a back up.

I don't know, maybe? As a starter, there probably isn't demand around the league, but as a high tier backup ... he might get some offers? And we might not win that bidding war.

He aslo came from the Vikes ... so he might want to go back there, or Vikes might want him back?

Was he able to operate the doorknobs on his way out?

You can't keep backups at starter salaries.

All this means is that Oregons Pro Day is going to be very, very telling. Unless Tomlin and Kahn are both seen at Oregons Pro Day (minimum), Jackson Powers Johnson isn't going to be a Steeler. If anything, Zach Fraizer from West Virgina has a much better shot than JPJ does at present.

    Hope I am wrong.

Have to believe they're gonna sign a serious FA at this point. We can't rerun the Kendrick Green situation again.

If they sign a guy like Cushenberry, then they can grab a OT in the first, and then in the 2nd a CB, WR, LB, or even a QB that falls.

    Let him test the market

    Resign him at minimum

Get depth at a decent cost

He may have been asked to take a pay cut and said no

Mason Cole had 100% of the offensive snaps last year.

Does this mean that currently there is no one on the roster that has ever snapped the ball for the Steelers? (Besides the Long Snapper)

My prediction is the Steelers sign the Titan's Center Aaron Brewer, and draft a Center in the 2nd or 3rd round. Because Cole was released so early, something tells me Arthur Smith and Khan already have a deal in place to bring Brewer to Pittsburgh.

Problem with drafting Jackson Powers Johnson is that now there are two JPJs on the team. The thought of a 300lb center defending Jamar Chase

Would Brewer be an upgrade … seems more like a lateral move.

Did the Steelers show their draft hand with this release so early? Or is it just doing the player
a favor to give him some extra time to catch on with another team?

    Courtesy

They probably tried to to sign him to a lower contract and he wanted to test FA

That is fine see what he is worth and match if desired

Kind of amazing how quickly some of the FA deals are announced, but tampering is a quick way to get fined and more important lose draft picks.

Are there ways players get their interests in another team known?? Maybe, I would guess players as friends talk, but the league seems pretty strict on this. the 'legal' tampering dates are listed here, lol.

That reminds me of a scene from Rodney Dangerfield's movie "Back to School". Rodney is in the hot tub and a hot coed gets into the tub with him. Rodney asks her what her major is and she says "Poetry" then Rodney says "Really, maybe you can help me straighten out my Longfellow!"
